I wasn't a fan of the original. But this remake hit different. I think the musical theme is beautiful and haunting.... I enjoyed the movie in the “it’s bad but good” sense and it has one of my favorite lines ever: “It’s lonely without God, isn’t it?” “It’s just lonely—period.”

One reason Galtar and the Golden Lance has such a strong sword-and-sorcery look is the comic-book talent behind it. Character design credits include Frank Brunner, celebrated for his wild, atmospheric work on Doctor Strange and Howard the Duck, and Mike Vosburg, a veteran of Savage She-Hulk, Conan, and numerous animation productions. DC artist Ric Estrada also worked on the series as a layout artist and story director. Beneath the familiar Hanna-Barbera animation is a distinctly comic-book fantasy aesthetic: muscular heroes, elaborate armour, grotesque monsters, and the sort of strange kingdoms that wouldn’t look out of place in a 1970s Marvel sword-and-sorcery book. Then those first haunting piano notes from Tim Wright and Franck Sauer drift out of the speakers like mist rolling over an ancient sea. In Agony you weren't some generic spaceship pilot. No, you were Alestes the apprentice, transformed into an owl, blasting through six atmospheric levels filled with ancient ruins, and creatures straight out of a dark fairy tale. The graphics? They were (are) Jaw-dropping! The music by Jeroen Tel? Beautiful. Sure, it was a more “mellow atmospheric blaster”, but that’s exactly why it felt so special. Art & Magic poured their hearts into making the Amiga sing — and boy, did it deliver. One of the prettiest horizontal shooters the platform ever saw. That's owl folks!
