So, just learning that when standard tracks failed on M113 APCs in Vietnam’s deep mud, crews bolted specialized capstan drum hubs directly onto the front drive sprockets. By wrapping a heavy rope around the spinning hubs and anchoring it to a tree or auger, the crew turned the vehicle’s engine into a powerful capstan winch to pull themselves free. Brilliant.🫡

Feels like a few moments ago when Golf GTI was still a manual. A hot hatch that still offered three pedals, still felt interactive, and still made sense as an everyday enthusiast car before the manual option disappeared. The engine is turbocharged and modern, but the appeal is rowing you're own gears. The GTI has always been about balance rather than extremes, and the last manual versions, like the Clubsport feel like the final link to what the name originally meant. Is Volkswagen or the endless regulations here to blame?

Meisha Retsuden: Greatest 70s (PS1) has a feature where you can adjust timing, ignition, and Air/Fuel Ratio. You could get a bit of extra performance by somehow adjusting it so the “engine” dial goes to green, or screw up your car messing up with the settings. The car needs to be re-tuned if you attach new parts, too

The Blackburn Perth was Britain's largest biplane flying boat to serve with the RAF in the 1930s. Nishad says, “Dr. Prem had purchased a Grand Vitara vehicle. After driving it for about 21,000 kilometres, a problem arose: the vehicle would shut down. An indicator on the dashboard would signal an engine problem. He took it to the company, but the issue wasn't resolved. The company claimed that the fuel used was of poor quality—specifically, that bad petrol had been put in—causing the warning light and the engine shutdowns. The company itself then replaced the fuel with a different batch, but the vehicle stalled again after just 60 kilometres… After examining all the evidence, the court concluded that there was a defect in the vehicle and a deficiency in service and trade practices. Consequently, the court ordered the company to provide a new vehicle or, failing that, to pay a sum of approximately ₹20 lakh…”

We got a call to pick up this precious baby from a location in Oyo State, the client clearly stated the car was in a pretty bad condition and that he wanted to refurbish the car for his Dad. Arrangements were made for pick up and shortly after the driver passed Ibadan, the engine was overheating, and there were oil droplets on the road from the engine, he waited for a while and allowed the engine to cool off and topped up the water in the radiator, he had not driven for 10 minutes before the engine overheated again, I contacted our client and I told him the best option was to tow the car because there was no way that car would get to Inside Òṣogbo , he said we should go ahead and he was going to cover the cost. The car arrived our workshop Doromecho Automobile Solutions Ltd. Inside Òṣogbo safely. We informed our client and gave him the update, it was indeed going to be a total and complete Overhaul and refurbishment but of course, we were up to it.

Up close with Union Pacific Big Boy 4014, sitting idle on a siding in Wheatland, CA, quietly ticking and hissing as it waits for a passing train. The ticking sounds puzzled me. Does anyone familiar with steam locomotives know what causes these ticks? Could they signal an automatic system, or is the engine preparing to move? Got to hand it to Union Pacific, as they had plenty of employees around keeping it safe, and they even handed out small American flags for people to wave. Watch until the end, as we truly didn't know what was to come, but what happened next I will never forget. All I could do was hold on to the camera and hope for the best. The passing of the Abraham Lincoln Engine. caused the crowd to erupt in cheers! The energy and excitement marked the day as truly unforgettable, a perfect finale to an incredible experience with the Big Boy.

Not only is the concept of a DC-9 in this military role exotic, this one raises the bar by using the UDF - UnDucted Fan - engine, which was a sort of hybrid between a turbofan and a turbopro. It promised up to to 30% reduction in fuel burn without decreasing in-flight cruise speeds. Seen here is an MD-81 demonstrator with the General Electric GE36 UDF at the 1988 Farnborough Air Show, shortly before the project was cancelled due to the lack of orders. 📹Phil Whalley

I heard the crossing keeper closing the gates just now so thought I’d make an effort and walk up the lane a little way to catch the train. Unfortunately it was a down train which is never quite as spectacular as the up train. Never mind, maybe next time 🚂

Imagine leaving the dealer after picking up your new car, your are amazed and distracted at the features of the car and how comfortable it is. All of a sudden you feel a spine jarring impact and hear multiple parts of the car crunching, the wheel is now wobbling and making noises. Before you know it, you realize you had just hit a massive pothole. Is it a sign that this car wasn’t meant for you or is it time to take it to the city and demand they repair it?
