Before starting any construction project utilizing lumber, educating ourselves on the different types of dimensional lumber available to us is key, trees are typically processed in sawmills 3 different ways, checking the end grain will tell us whether it is the following. 1️⃣ plain 2️⃣ quarter 3️⃣ rift Any... of us that have frequented the big box home improvement centers are fully aware of some of the junk lumber that comes through their doors. Being selective about our lumber can make all the difference in the finished product, searching for an actual lumberyard in our vicinity can save us a lot of aggravation by not having to sift hrough stacks of lumber only to find 2 x’s warped, split and full of knots. There is a high likelihood this lumber is imported, lumberyards more than likely utilize American sawmillers processing American trees. Lumberyards more than likely keep these different types separated so they can point builders in the right direction, we are going to pay up for this lumber but as the old saying goes you cannot put a price on quality.show more

JUST IN: President Trump says he is signing an emergency order to "free up forests" for more lumber production in the United States. An influx of new, cheap lumber will drastically reduce the cost of new housing construction. LET'S GO! "We're freeing up our forests. We're going to be able to take down trees right now. We're so restricted environmentally... We have more forests than almost anybody. We don't need anybody's trees. We don't need trees from Canada or anybody else." This is how we'll actually solve the housing affordability crisis, NOT by sending government subsidies to anyone.

A Lowes in NY selling moldy lumber. Shouldn't there be some sort of fine or something for selling moldy wood? The mold will just spread and make people sick. This guy asks the manager, "if they would like it if grocery stores sold moldy food?" Managers refuse to bring down lumber that isn't moldy until the moldy lumber is sold.

The Canadian public definitely don't want to give up their sovereignty, but they really want to explore this idea of an economic union. Canada has unlimited resources, power, gas, water, lumber, unlimited everything. What if we had free trade east, west, north, south, and we put all our resources instead of squabbling on our own border between Canada and the United States and put all that money up into protecting ourselves against the Chinese and the Russians up north? That all makes sense to Canadians. They just don't want to give up their sovereignty, but the way to solve for that is a passport, no different than the EU. Any American can get it. Any Canadian can get it. Get the background check. They're starting to like that idea a lot more than the idea of selling out the whole country.

Looking around construction sites of all sizes for scrap 2”x 4”s and other dimensional lumber that will be burned or thrown in the dumpster you can easily amass enough material for a project such as this in a short amount of time at no cost and in most cases you will be shown gratitude for taking it off their hands. This project is a bit laborious but the end results are spectacular.

The tariff on lumber—that’s going to increase the price of new homes, which are already out of reach for many couples trying to buy their first home. That increase in price is the Trump Tax. And I don’t say that because I’m a Democratic governor and he’s a Republican president—I say it because it’s solely his fault. Every economist is saying, don’t do it. It’s slowing down our economy. It could lead us into a recession. He inherited an economy that was growing more than most in the world, and he’s tanking it. He’s wrecking it. And people in my state are going to pay more than most because our number one export target is Canada. Whether it’s Kentucky bourbon or our aerospace exports, we get hit—and we get hit hard.

Did you know meat is being imported into the US from overseas and being marketed as a product of the USA? The US cattle industry is at an all time low. It's a result of things like extreme drought, beef cost rising, and inflation. Cattle prices are at an all time high, which drives the price of beef. But this isn't necessarily a good thing for ranchers. This just means the 4 large corporations who control 85 percent of the US beef market, 2 of them Brazilian owned, will import meat from other countries where they can source it cheaper. And because of our own laws, if it is repackaged in any way, it can be labeled product of the USA. This is especially unsettling for ground beef that can come from multiple countries, from different ages, and different breeds of older cows that any sort of untraceable diet. That shrimp can be frozen for who knows how long and imported in droves, then thawed and mixed in a large vat in a large processing plant with literally hundreds of different DNA samples landing in 1 pound of ground beef. Importing and exporting is not the problem. Americans like their hamburger, but not their heart. Traditional export markets are good for ranchers to get a premium for the unusual cuts that are more widely desired in foreign markets. But the American consumer deserves to know where their meat comes from and how it was raised. And there is an answer. Buy directly from a rancher in the USA. Find a ranch you can buy direct from locally or one who ships to your doorstep and start ordering now and trusting the source of the food you feed your family.”
