Ben Affleck says you have to abandon everyone around you in order to achieve greatness "when you see Michael Jordan like what does it mean to be great? and how's like touch everybody? and change everybody" "to truly be great at something you have to almost abandon everything...I've seen that in various ways like in that kind of just personal study. I haven't seen anybody who I think like qualifies for that who who didn't also seem to be really suffering" "I find that really fascinating like people who are great at something and the mystery of like what is that like? and what is that do to your life? and how did you get that way?"

Jordi: Timothée Chalamet came out with like: 'It's ok to pursue greatness, and I'm trying to be the GOAT.' If you do that, and then you start randomly taking shots at another art form where other people are pursuing greatness, you just invite a lot of criticism. Everyone's OK with somebody being on their own personal pursuit of greatness. But if you're doing that while trying to tear down other art forms, you're just going to invite massive criticism.

💬:words i want to hear about ENHYPEN in 2026 🐹: i want people to hear something like, ‘you should see an enhypen performance at least once.’ we’re also preparing for a concert… right..? we are preparing… hehe, is this a spoiler? we always get ready for performances that are really fun and great for running around with the audience. 🐹: so i hope many people feel that it’s a show you should definitely see at least once.”

Brian Armstrong on the importance of disagreeableness if you want to do important things “What I’ve realized about a lot of people who I think are building important things in the world is that they’ve developed this high disagreeableness muscle where they’ve recognized that they’re not going to make everybody happy and they’ve made peace with it.” He gives Mark Zuckerberg as an example. “They realized at a certain point that whether I do the thing that I think everyone’s going to like or the thing that is more authentic to me, someone’s going to be pissed no matter what .So at the end of the day, I’m just going to do the thing that I think is right. And they’ve leaned more into authenticity instead of trying to say what they think people want to hear. And that does require you to have thick skin and some kind of high disagreeableness. And then they can actually do even more interesting stuff because they’re being themselves instead of trying to be liked.” This is something Brian himself is even trying to work on. And of course there are limits — you don’t want to get to a place where you’re listening to nobody. You want people around you have your best interest at heart and to listen to them. But for people who don’t have your best interest at heart, you need to build the ability to ignore them. “It’s a real superpower to care less what other people think — at least people who don’t have your best interests at heart.” Video source: Steven Bartlett (2022)

“It’s ok if you’re just average right now. I just want to know whether you want to become great. Because there are a lot of people who are ok accepting average. They think it’s safer and more comfortable. They think trying to be great comes with a lot of risk. They think it’s too hard and they might get exposed. People think it’s easier to be average than to go try to be great. There’s more friends, more acceptance, more comfort among the average. But I’ll tell you the real truth: Being average is only safe and comfortable for a small window of time. Because at the end of the regular season, when that final whistle blows, and you’re not playing for a championship? How comfortable is that?”

Chris Bosh explains how Kobe Bryant taught him that greatness is mostly an unglamorous routine “If you’re trying to go after something, it’s a process and you cannot cheat it. That is one thing you cannot do. You can’t cheat the process, and even then that doesn’t guarantee you anything. You have to have your stuff together because you want to win, that doesn’t guarantee a win. You just have to make sure you’re doing your process.” “I had the chance to have a conversation with Kobe. We were friendly and we tried to have dinner once a year. He always talked about loving the process of what you do. That’s important. You have to love what you do and love putting the work in because some days are going to suck. It’s always going to suck to go in the gym and shoot 10,000 free throws.” “Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, Kobe, this is amazing.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s cool, but think about my day. I get up at 4:30am, take my kids to school, I lift weights, I go to practice, I pick them up from school, then I’ve got to do treatment because I’m 35 years old in the league. Then I’ve got to do treatment, and by the time I finish all that stuff, the day’s over. I don’t do anything else. This is all I do.’” “If you take on that approach to something that you love, if you can stick with it even in those tough days, that’s where you want to be.” “You gotta love the grind, man. That’s the part I always like to think of anytime something gets hard. If I’m pursuing a goal and I want to quit, it’s going to come. It’s going to come. It’s okay.” “How many people would quit right now? That’s the first thing I think about. Then I keep going. I’m like, okay, I’m not going to let this drop me off and keep me away from what I’m doing.”

Andy Reid says he’ll deliberately call out Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones in front of the Chiefs because the best players have to show everyone else that greatness doesn’t exempt you from coaching “At times I’m going to go after guys. Very seldom, but I’ll go after Pat Mahomes. ‘You’re the best quarterback in football. You’ve got to be able to do this. I know you can. I’ve seen you do it.’” “And that’s an example to the other guys that as great as he is, Chris Jones, as great as you are, Travis Kelce, as great as you are, there’s always room to be better.” “To be great as a team, we’ve got to be able to do these things. And if you can do them, surely these other guys can that are trying to become as great as you.” “I think it’s important to coach those star players in front of the rest of the group. But I’m not a belittler. I’m going to coach everybody. I’m going to try to give them things that help them become greater than they are.” “It’s not belittling them because I think they’re trying to be great. They’re not doing things not to be great. But just a reminder: you’re as great as you are because you did this.”

"The reward for great work is more work, and I find that saying that maxim to the right person, the kind of person I want to spend time with, their eyes go wide and they understand it immediately. That the reward for great work is not money, power, fame. It is the privilege to get to do more of this thing that I love doing."

The 🔥 intensity of Ray Lewis and Kevin Garnett is unmatched! Ray Lewis tells me that he & Kevin Garnett connected over their shared drive: “We both agreed that we were kind of insane. But, I think we both appreciate what that insane was. Because it’s not insane like that! It’s insane to do something great, to be great, to see better, to do better, to lead better!” A legendary meeting of minds.

Dr. Ben Carson warns that the media will stop at nothing to elevate Kamala Harris from being “universally disliked” to a “godlike figure.” TUCKER CARLSON: “What do you think of Kamala Harris?” DR. BEN CARSON: “I think she is a politician.” TUCKER CARLSON: “Yeah.” DR. BEN CARSON: “And she's interested in the accumulation of power and control.” TUCKER CARLSON: “Do you think she believes in anything?” DR. BEN CARSON: “I think she believes in government, like most Marxists. Yes, I think she is a Marxist.” TUCKER CARLSON: “Do you think that she can win?” DR. BEN CARSON: “Absolutely she can win. This is going to be a great test of the power of the media to take someone who formerly was universally disliked and transform them into a godlike figure, and they will use everything that they have to try to do that. The question is, are the American people smart enough to see through it? And I actually think the American people are smarter than anybody gives them credit for. And I don't think that they are going to be willing to sacrifice what we have in this country, which is what everybody else wants, even though they try to denigrate our country, say we're systemically racist, we're unfair to people. If we were all that bad, why are all these people trying to get in here? Why aren't people trying to get out of here? So we know that we have something that's very good. And I think the American people realize that, and they're not willing to give that up and trade that for something inferior.”
