Chris Bosh explains how Kobe Bryant taught him that greatness is mostly an unglamorous routine “If you’re trying to go after something, it’s a process and you cannot cheat it. That is one thing you cannot do. You can’t cheat the process, and even then that doesn’t guarantee you...

Lamar Jackson says he watched friends chase fast money while he was playing the long game and counting how many years it would take him to reach the NFL “I’m seeing my friends who I was growing up with who I was playing football with… Just throw their life away for fast money and stuff like that. They used to tell me ‘Oh, you talk too much’. Because I used to always speak about football and positivity stuff. They didn’t want to hear that.” “Now it’s like… They’d rather hear it now because I’m Lamar Jackson. But I’ve been speaking about it. Everybody just wasn’t listening. I was already seeing what was going on. I wish we could go back in time and y’all could see what I was seeing. Because I always looked at life like, I counted years.” “Like I would think… ‘How many years does it take to get to the league?’ They’re saying… ‘You do three years in college.’ I said… ‘I’m doing three years.’ I’m not doing four. I’m not trying to go fifth year. I’m doing three years because I’m going to make sure my family is good.” “If you’re coming from a place like where I come from, don’t try to be like the guys around you. Don’t look up to the stuff that looks like it’s fun… Because sometimes it gets you in trouble.” “It’s sacrificing. ‘Man, I can’t have fun right now. I’ve got to get my family right. I can’t do this right now. I can’t mess up.’ Forget the fast money. I’ve got to think about longevity.” “You can get locked up and do five years for $1,000. That money gone. It’s gone. You’re like… ‘Man, I just did that for $1,000…’ And I could have waited five years and I would’ve had $10 million.” “That’s why I’m where I’m at right now. That’s how I used to think. My mom working… She’s busting her behind. It’s me, my brother and my two sisters at home. I’m the oldest…” “So I’ve got to make sure everybody right. And it’s like… Man, I can’t wait, but I’ve got to wait. That’s the sacrifice. I’ve got to be patient. People don’t look at it like that. It’s like… ‘Man, I need that money right now.’ But you don’t need that money right now. Just wait.”

“You can’t manufacture hardship. I think about this all the time. I have all these things I’ve learned throughout life, and I think, how do I inject that into my kids? How do I give them these major life lessons? One thing I do is I always make them figure it out. I tell him, ‘I’m not going to push you up. You have to find another way.’ No matter what problem you’re going to face in life, there’s always an angle that you can take to accomplish what you want.” Josh Duhamel

Desean Jackson says becoming a head coach made him realize why his old coach was so hard on him “Me kind of being the head coach now and seeing, I have star players, or I have guys that are in certain roles, and it’s like, damn, I see him doing certain things and I can’t really let him slip.” “Because, just to be honest, if he would’ve allowed me to do the things and get away with it, you set me up for failure in the long run. Being a coach, I wouldn’t have been able to see this no other way because now I’m a coach and now I’m like him.” “If I allow you to get away with that, there’s going to be a point in time where you get to the league and you’re going to be late. You’re going to do something… They going to fine you or they going to cut your ass.” “So if I allow you to slip and I know down the road in your future it’s going to bite you, I can’t allow you to do that. I feel like regardless of the status or not, you got to remain even keel. You got to remain who you were.”

jihoon answering teumes’ worries at dawn live 👤: I really wanted to receive a psychiatric (treatment) but I don’t have the courage to do it. Should I go? I think I’m going to have a hard time accepting that I am falling apart. 🐶: but I recommend going to the psychiatrist, whether if it’s receiving a psychological counselling or a psychiatric examination, it’s good to receive a treatment for it. Everyone, going to the psychiatrist doesn’t make you weird. If you caught a cold, you go to the internal medicine department, If your joints or bones hurts, you go to the orthopaedics. It’s just a cold that come to the mind. It’s not that going to the psychiatrist makes me a weird person, no it’s not that. It’s just that I’m exhausted for a while, it’s just a hospital. There’s more people going there more than you think, if you go to hospital, the queuing are the longest. Nowadays, it’s the same as the past too but there’s no one who doesn't have a hard time. In this hard world, although there are people who look at the hard times in a good way, & there are also people who don’t look at it in a good way… but since it’s a world where we lived together, there's nothing we can do about it, right? But those kind of, “ah I went to the psychiatrist & I collapsed” I don’t think you have think of that. It’s just, “I am having a hard time these days so I’m just going to get help for it” just think of it as if you caught a cold. I hope you don’t think of this deeply. Of course you can go. If your stomach hurt, you can go to the internal medicine, if your head hurts, you can go to the Otolaryngology. It’s just that your heart is having a hard time for a while. This is not something to be ashamed of, you don’t need to read the air with the people around you for this. Always cheer up, even if you collapse, let's practice the strength that can make you rise again slowly, treasure makers. You can do it, everyone, I know you can do it.

Marcus Freeman says caring for players solely to produce better results is manipulation, and genuine love usually produces better results anyway “It’s why you do what you do. I’m a competitive dude. I want to be the best at what I do. But that’s not why I do what I do.” “I truly want to make sure the young people you coach are better football players and better men because they chose to play football at a place you’re the leader of.” “It isn’t about wins and losses as much as…‘I want this young person to be better because of the time we spent together.’ That means caring about him as an individual. Caring about his family.” “You don’t do that for me to win games. But you know what? It helps.” “At times I’m hard on them. But they know I care about them. ‘I love you.’ ‘Now I’m going to get after your ass.’ ‘I’m going to get after you, but I love you.’” “When you feel that way about somebody… That’s when you’ll run through a brick wall.”

“Everything is difficult. If you’re going to do something important it’s going to take you a decade or more to have an impact. You might as well pick something you care about. Pick the really big thing. It’s always bothered me when I talked to entrepreneurs and they tell me about the thing they're working on and I ask: What do you *really* want to do? And they say well the big thing I want to do is actually this [other idea] But in their mind it’s a little too ambitious, it’s a little too difficult, they need more capital…. You should just go for that now. You might as well work on the thing that will have a major impact if it works.”

Anthony Edwards’ pitch to Jonathan Kuminga to join the Timberwolves, according to Aaron Turner: “I want you to come here and I want you to do everything you do and do it loudly. I feel where you’re coming from. I can understand what you’ve dealt with through these parts of your career and I want you to come in here and be Jonathan Kuminga.” Full quote by NBA agent Aaron Turner on the latest episode of The KOC Show: “Ant was a massive part of this whole thing because he said, ‘Listen, we’re gonna guard. Everybody’s going to guard.” Offensively, one of the biggest things Ant and Chris Finch said to him: ‘This whole thing of JK is a role player’ and all this stuff that’s been talked about, that was not the pitch. The pitch was, ‘Hey JK, we want you to come here and be the guy that we had to play against in the playoffs. Like, we want that dude. Like, we’re not asking you to go be something else. We’re asking you to be yourself. Now, are we going to have to all sacrifice and blend together our games? For sure.’” “But this whole thing of like, oh, he has to adapt. No. Ant, who is as unselfish of a star as you could imagine and super secure with who he is. His whole thing was, look, ‘I want you to come here and I want you to do everything you do and do it loudly. I feel where you’re coming from. I can understand what you’ve dealt with through these parts of your career and I want you to come in here and be Jonathan Kuminga.’” “And that was the pitch from Chris Finch as well of like, look, ‘we’re all going to guard, and you know, again, everybody here on this team will have to sacrifice. Everybody’s going to have to make sure that they’re making the right play and not necessarily getting caught up in my turn, your turn.’ And I’m sure Chris Finch will figure that out. When you have a great team, people have to sacrifice. But the pitch was not come here and oh, you got to be this quote unquote, whatever you want to call it, role player. The thing was, hey, come here, be you. We’re all going to have to sacrifice. But if it’s about winning, and it’s always going to be about winning, and that’s the most important thing, this thing has a chance to really work. And you know, Ant having reached out like that, Chris Finch following up, Tim Connelly following up, Alex Rodriguez following up, it was very aligned in the pitch and it made a lot of sense and it resonated with him and me.”

Raymond Felton on Nick Wright comments calling LaMelo Ball a clown: “So, as a father I’m like fu*k you, how dare you talk about my son? When I see you I’m gonna slap the sh*t out of you, that’s the father in me. Now, me if I’m in the league I’m telling my dad don’t worry about it I’m going to address it, I got it, I’m going to say something to him. For you to call somebody a clown granted we all talk about this the other day, LaMelo was wrong for that shouldn’t have grab that man ankles unfortunately Bam got hurt and he got fined, i told y’all he wasn’t going to get suspended, he got fined. So, we all sit here and agree with each other that he was wrong for what he did. But now you going personal, he’s a clown. Like, when people go at people character, like if you want to talk about somebody game as an analyst or whatever you call yourself then you do that. But what people don’t understand is when you make stuff personal and now when you make it personal, but if I see you out on the streets you going to run to the cops. Let’s be honest. You going to try to sue me if I slap the sh*t out of you. But you just came at me personally though? So when I see you if I react to you coming at me personally being physical with you then you going to run and call the cops. He going to call the cops and you going to jail straight up. Because he going to press chargers. So, it’s just like I don’t know man when people go that far like that, I don’t really fool with them like that, I don’t even follow this dude honestly when he on TV, I turn the TV off.” (Via ToTheBaha)

Max Strus says making the NBA required him to accept he doesn’t have a bag anymore and that shooting got him on the floor but defense would keep him out there “I don’t have a bag. I used to have a bag back in college, but I don’t anymore because you find what your niche is and you just go at it.” “I knew shooting the basketball was going to get me on the floor, and then I knew playing defense was going to keep me on the floor. I’ll guard the best player. I don’t care. They’re going to score on me because everybody’s that good. You can’t really stop anybody anyway.” “So it’s like, how can I make it as tough as possible on them? I don’t need to shoot the ball. I’m all right. I can do other things that I know are helping the team win. How can I make Donovan Mitchell better? How can I make James Harden better? How can I make Jarrett Allen better?” “If I feel like I haven’t gotten a shot, it’s like, all right, go crash the offensive rebound and get it. I’m not going to sit here and cry to myself about not shooting the ball or not being involved. Make yourself useful.” “My first couple years [in Miami], I don’t think I dribbled the ball once. Come off a handoff and shoot, come off a screen and shoot, and then defend and rebound. That’s all I did.” “As you continue to build more confidence within the team, within the coach, they put you in positions where, all right, now I can do a little bit more.” “You’ve got to have the humbleness to humble yourself to, ‘I’m not that guy anymore. I can’t be that guy anymore.’ But then be ready for the opportunity when it does come, ‘No, I could still be that guy. That’s just not what we need right now. But when we do, I got you.’”

Stephen Colbert: “As someone who is very qualified for the presidency… a very hopeful and dynamic presidential candidate for the 107 days you had to run. To hear you say that it’s broken. To hear you say that our systems aren’t strong is harrowing.” Kamala Harris: “Well, it’s also evident, isn’t it?... It doesn’t mean we give up. That’s not my point… I’m always going to be a part of the fight that’s never going to change… And I believe right now that it is important to do what I can do, from the positions that I’ve held and what I have seen about the world and our country, to get out there and remind everyone who needs reminding right now of their power.” “It is our government. It is our country, and it is important, I think, that in this moment where people have become so deflated and despondent and afraid, that those of us who have the ability, which I do right now, not being in an office where I’m campaigning for that office, to be out there and to talk with folks and remind them of their power and their importance in making a difference.” “I just want to put a fine point on this. You can never let anybody take your power from you. You can never let anybody take your power from you. And that’s what I think, for me, that’s what I like to remind folks of.”

Jalen Hurts says if he were forced to choose between winning or learning, he'd rather learn, because the best winners are actually obsessed with their losses, that’s where they find the lessons that allow them to win again “Sometimes I feel like there haven’t even been any wins, really. You get so attached to the losses and how you can improve from those. I think naturally I choose the losses.” “I think that’s what makes a winner, really. Before you can win, you’ve got to learn how not to lose. To be a winner is not because you’re a winner itself. It’s because you have a spirit of not accepting defeat.” “You’ve got this ongoing drive to say, ‘I refuse to lose.’ It’s not going to always go picture perfect. You’re going to have adversity. You’re going to have experiences that come. You have to learn from character-building moments, but it comes down to how you respond to it.” “You know how to learn from the losses more than you know what to do with the wins. And it’s a challenge to respond to the successes as well. How do you maintain the same hunger? How do you maintain the same drive and the will to win and the will to improve? Because it only gets harder and harder. Nothing about it is easy.”

Joe Mazzulla says his goal as Celtics coach is to be forgotten “If the people around you didn’t do what they do… I wouldn’t do anything. The thing I reflect on the most is… I think you have to be willing to be forgotten. I think that’s kind of my main goal.” “I want to be forgotten about. Because that means after you… It was better. I think that’s what it means to be a Celtic. However long you play, coach, work for the Celtics…” “Your job is to keep it exactly where it’s at or bring it better. You cannot bring it down. If you leave and it gets worse, that’s your fault. If you leave and they win, and they forgot about you, you did your job.” “I talk about that every day with the staff. Our job is to one day be forgotten about because you did your job. It became about something bigger than you.” “It’s a burden and a love for being with the Celtics… But it’s a responsibility. I think we could take that into our daily life. Can I leave it so much better that they don’t remember me because the next person came and was better?”

🎥 || What is the last thing you want to prove in F1? Lewis: “I don’t do what I do to prove to anyone anything. I love what I do and I don’t wake up thinking I have to prove anything. That’s never a word in my vocabulary. I get up to be the best I can be, I’m always trying to see if I can push myself to the next level and I ask myself that question, can you go a step further?” “I feel there’s a long long way to go still left on the runway that I’m on, the journey that I’m on. I don’t have anything to prove to anyone.” 💥💥

Steve Jobs on what separates the successful founders from unsuccessful ones Steve is asked what the factors of success and common pitfalls are for young entrepreneurs. He responds: “I get asked this a lot, and I have a pretty standard answer. A lot of people come to me and say, ‘I want to be an entrepreneur.’ And I go, ‘Oh, that’s great, what’s your idea?’ And they say they don’t have one yet. And I say I think you should go get a job as a busboy or something until you find something you’re really passionate about, because it’s a lot of work.” Steve continues: “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance. It is so hard. You pour so much of your life into this thing, and there are such rough moments in time that most people give up. I don’t blame them. It’s really tough, and it consumes your life. I mean, if you’ve got a family and you’re in the early days of a company, I can’t imagine how one could do it. I’m sure it’s been done, but it’s rough because it’s pretty much an 18-hour-a-day job, 7 days a week for a while. So unless you have a lot of passion about this, you’re not going to survive. You’re going to give it up.” He concludes: “You’ve got to have an idea or a problem or a wrong that you want to right that you’re passionate about. Otherwise, you’re not going to have the perseverance to stick it through. And I think that’s half the battle right there.”

“And anyway, I wanted to clarify something that was told to me in a half-assed way by some fanatical people, because I don’t call these people fans, I call them fanatics. And thank God they eventually remove themselves from the community on their own, because fundamentally they were never really part of the community to begin with, given the kinds of actions and thoughts they have. Now, you all know very well that there are people among you who help me, whom I absolutely welcome and appreciate a lot, actually, probably more than what they even give me. And as a result, I do have a human, working relationship that goes beyond just being a fan, right? So of course, in certain circumstances, because of specific skills people have and the kind of help they give, it’s obvious that more conversations start happening and a more developed human relationship begins, beyond a simple… you know. That’s how life works. It’s not like I can live my life and talk to every single one of you in the exact same way. It’s normal, choices are made based on the situations that come up. Anyone who’s mentally healthy understands this and tries to build a human relationship with me in some way. But those who aren’t healthy think, “Well, why does she talk to her and not to me?” But I can’t talk to everyone. Even though I try to do it in my own way, if I started talking to every single one of you, my life would obviously be over. And I think that applies to anyone who has a community or a group of people who follow them. So then this thing came out about me going to Disneyland. But, holy crap, as they say, maybe! Maybe I would go to Disneyland! And even if I did go to Disneyland, it’s none of your fucking business if I want to go to Disneyland. What the fuck do you care if I want to go to Disneyland? It’s my business. Also, I haven’t been to Disneyland in 18 years, last time was with a friend from high school. But even then, it’s still my business if I want to go with whomever I want: if I’m dating someone or not, if I want to go with a friend, if I want to go with a fan I choose from among you. Is it my business or not? I mean, is everything okay with you people? And then, what the fuck does it change for you? Do you appreciate me for who I am? Good. Appreciate me for who I am and for what I do, not for who I’m with or where I go. Sometimes it feels like I’m talking to a jealous girlfriend. But I already, normally, believe me, don’t get involved with certain people, or a certain type of person, because jealousy and unresolved issues really bother me. Let me explain better. Let’s say I get into a relationship. My partner should never make jealousy scenes. You want to go to Disneyland with your friends? Go. Don’t go. What do I care? That’s your business. It’s great that our paths cross and we have a beautiful, loving life together, but that doesn’t erase my other relationships or my other bonds. Sometimes, with some people in this community, it feels like I’m dating them, like they think I’m their girlfriend. That’s not normal. You’re fanatics, you’re not well. So it’s actually a good thing if you don’t come to the meetups I organize. I even send you a kiss and bye-bye, good riddance, because you’re not right in the head. Anyway, what was I saying… maybe I’d really like to go to Disneyland, but honestly I don’t even have the head for Disneyland anymore. I’ve got other stuff going on in my brain, as they say, and for now I prefer working over going to Disneyland. Also, instead of Disneyland, I would’ve preferred the Maldives, if we really want to say it. Or at least the sea, one way or another. But if I go to London, if I go to Paris, it’s for one reason: to have the chance to work and create content. And on the other hand, to meet you. So if I go to Paris that day, it’s because I’m trying to organize a day where I can go and meet you for an hour or so, because I’m only there for a day. And I hope you can understand that.”

Ben Affleck thinks it’s great that Timothée Chalamet is chasing greatness: “Timothée Chalamet got a lot of shit for being like, “I’m trying to do something great. I think that has something to do with him being young and people being kind of envious. The truth is, I see that and I’m like, ‘great yeah. What are we aspiring to mediocrity? Of course you want to aspire to something great. You're not going to always get there, right? If you aim that high, you at least get closer. I want to work with people who are trying to do something great.”

Lonzo Ball on how injuries changed his relationship with basketball: “I mean it definitely takes some joy away from it obviously because you can’t do what you want to do. I think everybody just faces that at some point in their career eventually. You know, everybody, whether it’s age, age going to get you. I mean, unless you LeBron other than him, like, you know, something’s going to happen where you start declining. You know what I’m saying? And it’s always going to be like, damn, I wish I could do this. I wish I could do that. But I never really live life like, looking in the past or nothing like that. You feel me? I feel like when I came back, I was like, “Okay, this was my thought process.” Like, “Okay, boom I can’t do this, this, and that, but I can do this, this, and that. So, we going to shape some type of way to make this sh*t work, you feel me? And that was my thought process. Honestly, the sh*t would have been fine in Cleveland if I would have just made an extra two shots a game.” (Via Curious Mike)

Michael Strahan says he told a recently retired athlete who wanted a successful second career but wasn’t willing to make the same sacrifices that got him to the NFL that he was hustling like a rich man “We were in a car at the Super Bowl in Atlanta. Me, you, one of our clients, not to be named. He had just retired, and we’re talking about these things in the offseason that he needed to do. If you want to do this, this is what you have to do.” “And he was kind of balking. ‘I don’t know, maybe I’ll go rent a house and go to Spain for the summer with the family,’ blah, blah, blah. Which is fine, right? But you can’t act like you want more without putting in more.” “So I remember looking at him and saying, ‘Hey man, you’re hustling like a rich man. If you want to do this, you gotta hustle like you’re broke.’ And that’s where it came from.” “And it clicked. And he’s great now. Great job, TV, doing all these things. But at some point, I think there’s a lot of sacrifice that comes along with success.” “I agree. And people always see success and think, ‘Oh man, it just happened.’ You just rolled away from the NFL and went over and worked at the firm, and then you worked with Snoop for all these years, and then all of a sudden you got this company. You’re representing all these people and producing all these projects. And it just doesn’t work that way.” “It’s been years of hustle. It’s been years of rejection, years of picking yourself off the floor. Years of sometimes feeling like, ‘What the hell am I even doing this for? Like, I am tired.’” “And sometimes you’re going, ‘I don’t even need to do it. What am I doing?’ And I think that, for you and for me, I feel more responsible for the people we work with than I do for myself.”
