🖨️ It took over a year and lots of help from Claude Code but I have now been able to create a real dot matrix printer on the web that prints from Windows 3.11 in your browser: Here's the test page: I couldn't get the LPT1 port to work but COM2 did work (the dial up model already uses COM1), the JS receives the COM2 serial data (just raw print data) and then prints it Next is to make the dot matrix printer better looking (kinda 3d like on pieter dot com) and have the paper also flowing in 3d out of the printer and integrate it on the page My idea was that it might work because we also capture the COM1 data (from the dial up modem) and send it to a Websocket as a dial up connection, so we should be able to capture the COM2 traffic too but I didn't know how, but now I do IT WORKS!! 😊

Some todo fixes: - page should scroll out not already be there - we need some perspective so the paper slowly goes into distance - integrate it into pieter .com page fully - add a local print command so you can actually IRL print your printed dot matrix print You can try it the current WIP here:

Hacking a Polaroid printer with Codex: the printer didn't have a Mac app or any way to connect to a laptop, so I got Codex to reverse engineer the bluetooth connectivity and build a native swift app. We then also built a Codex skill to get it to print something fun. With coding assistants you can now avoid being stuck with badly design native software, but build something yourself that you'll like and enjoy - whether it is a printer, digital photo frame or some other IoT device gathering dust around the house. It is really not that hard to do anymore.

🔌Today I created a virtual web-based null modem so now you can finally play Quake 1 (from 1996) in multiplayer in the browser with other people online! This week I was able to create a virtual printer that listens on the COM2 port to make a web-based printer work in Windows 3.11, like on you can actually print to, it was one of my ideas when I started but it was always too difficult to make, I had no idea where to start, but this week AI was able to do it! Today I woke up and thought "if we can listen to COM2 via JS, how about listen to COM1 from Quake 1?" then we could forward the COM1 data via Websockets and to another user to create a virtual null modem (A null modem was a cable you'd use to connect two computers to each other directly in the 90s, if you couldn't afford buying a network card you'd use this to network, but you could only play with one other computer not multiple) So I built it, it took about an hour and works! I wanted to get Quake 1 in DOS to work with multiplayer for 2 years but I could never get it to work, but now it did it This project is a good benchmark of how capable AI is becoming, figuring stuff out that humans would take months within an hour You can try it here, I don't know how it will match lots of people but let's see, you have to exit to DOS first (ALT-F4 or FN-Option-F4 on Mac), then type CD games, then CD quake, then quake, then ESC, then Multiplayer, then either Create New Game or Join Game, and use Direct Connect, keep settings same and you're in!

You can try it on make sure you select the vertical ones, as I didn't get the horizontal printing to work (yet)

🥹 I’ve never been more empathetic or compelled to give someone on social media and sympathetic hug, I share some of this young ladies frustration, I’ve had my Epson printer for five years give or take, I will give a generous estimate of 200 copies I have pushed through it ?? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just three days ago I had some paperwork I wanted to get to a friend and I decided to use the scanner for the first time, well that ended in failure because the printer was not connected to Wi-Fi 😳 That is a head scratcher for me, how have I been sending documents from my iPad to the computer for printing all this time ?? I thought no problem I just looked up my Wi-Fi ID and password on my iPad, I entered wi-Fi ID and my password ❌ so for good measure I tried it again and just in case I made a mistake ❌ so I took a picture of the document with my phone and sent it that way, so basically I have a printer in name only, I checked YouTube where to look for the password on the printer ❌ I have to keep the paper cartridge full once it gets halfway through the Stack it won’t print I getneeds paper” 😡 I researched the probleon on YouTube it said clean the rollers ❌ I tried after Market ink cartridges operating to save a couple of bucks ❌ I guess I will consider myself lucky that I don’t have a Hewlett-Packard 😬 Just out of curiosity are all printers this hateful ??

You can just tell Claude Code to learn skills and it will. I asked Claude to create an app that uses tldraw and it one shotted it with sqlite db, and then I asked Claude Code to create a skill so that it could read and write on the canvas. 10 minutes later it could do it. Weirrrrdddd times.

I recorded my screen, it took me less than 10 minutes to go from text -> 3d printed object. I brainstormed with Gemini, used Imagen 3.0 to create the image, used Trellis to turn it into a GLB, translated that into an STL and printed it with my wife's bambulabs printer. I've been dreaming about this for years, being able to create things from pure thought! We're getting closer.

since i don't have a PS5 and cant really play the game, i went on the GTA VI preorder site and noticed their hero animation it was soo cool i had to recreate it with Motion they're rendering images on a canvas (all of the poster images are separate pngs) and once the animation is done, they remove it from the DOM i went ahead with a far simpler implementation code below ↓
