Byron Donalds is pushing to expand AI data centers in Florida while receiving campaign contributions from companies and interests connected to the AI and data-center industry. That raises legitimate questions about whether these policies are being driven by what is best for Florida residents or by the interests of companies that stand to profit. Florida residents should not be left paying higher electricity costs or dealing with increased demands on water and other resources just so corporations can make more money.

@billmaher It's not so much AI. It's how we're using it. For instance: AI could actually do away with money grabbing physicians and pharmaceuticals. Sure, we need doctors and medicine. But most nowadays are crooks. AI could put the patient in the driver's seat.

The impact of consciousness can be reduced to a simple conditional. One who is self-aware can be expected to act in one’s self-interest at least some of the time. If self-aware, then self-interested. A self-interested entity that has the intelligence to out game us should concern us.

The real problem is the fact that it is an incredibly lucrative field of industry to the one who gets there first. You don't need super intelligence to see the safety issues driven by that equation. The bottom line will always come first, and the people in control of that bottom line are not involved with AI Engineering. They are, however, the bosses and financiers of those who are.
