I think @billyjoel kind of got this wrong.. and when he said Paul McCartney liked show tunes, that was definitely misstated.. Paul loved the music of the 20s, 30s, etc and so did John. John had "Goodnight" John played guitar on Honey Pie, John had "Love" and John said that a large part of the Beatles songs had a connection compositional to the 20s/30s.. John had "If I Fell" very 30s.. @rickbeato

This is something I've pointed out to people about ABBA. Their lyrics are often more about how the words sound than the actual meaning. It's percussion. You see this with a lot of the Beach Boys music too.
