Great work by Oman’s Navy, Coast Guard, rescue teams, and the Maritime Security Centre مركز الأمن البحري| MARITIME SECURITY CENTRE during the incidents reported over the past 24 hours. According to the Maritime Security Centre, the commercial vessel “MAYUREE NAREE”, sailing under the flag of Thailand, was targeted about 13 nautical miles northeast of Musandam Governorate. The attack caused a fire in the main engine room. A vessel from the Royal Navy of Oman evacuated two Thai nationals, while other crew members were reported injured. The MSC also issued a navigation alert to all sea users, especially those operating far from the Omani coast. Mariners were advised not to rely entirely on GPS because signals may be jammed, disrupted, or temporarily lost. Vessels were urged to keep alternative navigation methods available and to carry and use a traditional compass when necessary. One video circulating online shows a Somali sailor filming from the Strait of Hormuz. In the clip he says three ships were burning while trying to pass through the strait. He claims the vessels involved were the Mayuree Naree, the ONE Majesty, which reportedly suffered minor damage, and the Star Gwyneth, which reportedly sustained hull damage. Another video also circulating online appears to show a Shahid Soleimani class corvette after it was struck by CENTCOM forces. Over the same period several maritime security alerts were issued by UKMTO Operations Centre covering activity in the Arabian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. According to the latest UKMTO advisory covering 28 February to 11 March 2026, a total of 17 incidents involving commercial vessels were reported. Thirteen were classified as attacks and four as suspicious activity. Recent reports include a bulk carrier struck by an unknown projectile about 50 nautical miles northwest of Dubai and a cargo vessel hit in the Strait of Hormuz about 11 nautical miles north of Oman, which caused a fire onboard. Another container vessel reported damage from a suspected projectile, while a separate incident near Abu Dhabi involved a loud explosion and splash close to a bulk carrier.

When RT. Hon Chibuike R. Amaechi took over as Minister of Transportation, Nigeria’s coastal waters were among the most dangerous in the world. The Gulf of Guinea was a global hotspot for piracy, 86 reported attacks in 2020 alone. Ships paid millions in war-risk insurance, and foreign operators avoided Nigerian ports altogether. Amaechi decided to change that. He championed the Anti-Piracy Law, the first of its kind in West and Central Africa, creating a legal framework to prosecute maritime crime. Then he conceived the Deep Blue Project, also known as the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, designed to secure Nigeria’s waters from land, sea, and air. Amaechi set up a state-of-the-art command centre (C4i), and provided the following equipment: 16 armored coastal patrol vehicles 600 specially trained maritime troops 4 drones 2 Special Mission Aircrafts for surveillance 2 special mission vessels 17 Fast interceptor boats 4 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. 3 Special Mission Helicopters for search and rescue By 2021, piracy in Nigerian waters had dropped to its lowest in 27 years. Kidnapping incidents were down 80%, and in 2022, Nigeria was officially removed from the International Bargaining Forum’s war-risk list, a milestone that saved the country about $67 million annually in private security and insurance costs. For his leadership, Amaechi was named Champion of Maritime Security by the Africa Blue Economy Forum in 2022. Even the Republic of Korea commended the project, calling it “a contribution to regional and international stability.” Amaechi’s vision wasn’t just about protecting ships; it was about restoring confidence, saving money, and delivering results. #CRA27 #Amaechi

PCG and BFAR Successfully Deliver Supplies to Filipino Fishermen in West Philippine Sea Amidst Chinese Illegal Presence and Intimidation In a significant demonstration of the Philippine government's unwavering support for its fishermen, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) successfully completed a vital aid distribution mission in the West Philippine Sea today, despite aggressive actions from Chinese maritime forces. This operation, part of the "Kadiwa sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda" initiative, underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding the livelihoods of Filipino fishermen and asserting maritime jurisdiction. Following a Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) flight on October 7 that revealed a considerable presence of Filipino fishing boats near Bajo de Masinloc and Escoda Shoal, PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan swiftly deployed four multi-role response vessels: the 97-meter BRP Teresa Magbanua and the 44-meter BRP Cabra to Bajo de Masinloc, and the 97-meter BRP Melchora Aquino along with another 44-meter PCG vessel to Escoda Shoal. In close collaboration with BFAR, an additional 11 vessels were mobilized—6 to Bajo de Masinloc and 5 to Escoda Shoal—to facilitate the distribution of essential supplies. Operations began at 5 a.m., with PCG personnel engaging over 45 fishing boats at both locations. The joint teams provided critical support, including fuel subsidies, five tons of crushed ice, and 345 grocery packs to nearly 100 vessels, enabling fishermen to extend their fishing expeditions. At Bajo de Masinloc, a People's Liberation Army Navy vessel 568 issued warnings from a distance regarding a live-fire exercise in the area, raising concerns among Filipino fishermen. Despite the intimidation tactics, the PCG and BFAR teams continued their mission, successfully delivering over 50,000 liters of fuel to approximately 55 boats, earning heartfelt gratitude from the fishermen for the dual support of subsidies and security. Meanwhile, at Escoda Shoal, BRP Melchora Aquino and accompanying PCG vessels provided protective presence as they escorted Filipino fishing boats to BFAR support ships. A PLA Navy helicopter conducted low-altitude monitoring flights, further attempting to intimidate the fishermen. Nevertheless, the mission succeeded in distributing 48,000 liters of fuel to over 35 boats, reinforcing food security and operational sustainability for the fishing community. In total, the joint operation disbursed 98,000 liters of fuel oil, bolstering the resilience of the local fishing sector. Complementing these efforts, the Department of Agriculture procured 35 tons of freshly caught fish from Bajo de Masinloc fishermen later that afternoon, ensuring that the fishermen could continue their work. The operation took place amidst an increased Chinese maritime presence, with 7 CCG vessels and 10 Chinese Maritime Militia in Bajo de Masinloc, and 8 CCG vessels accompanied by 9 Maritime Militia in Escoda Shoal. Yet, the PCG and BFAR teams remained steadfast, successfully achieving all mission objectives. "The Philippine Coast Guard, alongside our partners at BFAR, will never back down in defending the rights and livelihoods of our Filipino fishermen," stated Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, PCG Commandant. "This mission exemplifies President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s firm policy: We will neither waver nor surrender a single square inch of our territory to any foreign power."

In this Wall Street Journal The Wall Street Journal video report, I used my KTT's Wargame to help visualize the China Coast Guard activities that took place during the PLA’s “Justice Mission-2025” military exercise around Taiwan last December. The main focus of the video is how Taiwan’s Coast Guard responds to threats from the China Coast Guard and China’s maritime militia. The feature also includes interviews with Legislator Kuan-ting Chen 🇹🇼陳冠廷 Kuan-Ting Chen, chair of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee in Taiwan’s Parliament, discussing the current cross-strait maritime situation. My role was to visualize relevant operational scenarios through my wargame system and explain the possible roles of the China Coast Guard during a military blockade scenario. Beyond the footage that appeared in the final video, I also discussed during the interview that a military blockade effectively means war has already begun, as military forces could potentially strike military or civilian vessels and aircraft attempting to breach the blockade. In such a scenario, the China Coast Guard’s primary tasks would likely focus on expelling, intercepting, boarding, inspecting, and detaining Taiwanese and foreign non-military vessels, while military targets would more likely remain the responsibility of the PLA Navy, Air Force, and Rocket Force. I also discussed the challenges Taiwan could face in securing critical supplies and energy imports during a blockade, as well as the current operational patterns of China’s maritime militia. It was a unique opportunity to take part in this production. On one hand, it was a valuable opportunity to help explain the maritime threats Taiwan faces to an international audience alongside officers serving in Taiwan’s Coast Guard and Legislator Chen Kuan-ting. On the other hand, it also gave me the chance to use KTT's Wargame to further visualize the military situation in the Taiwan Strait. Many thanks to Joyu Wang, Todd, and Javier for all the coordination and production work that made this opportunity possible. The interview content was also informed by my previous analyses on PLA military exercises around Taiwan published in Jamestown China Brief at Jamestown Foundation. As for the wargame component, I have organized dozens of Chinese- and English-language wargame sessions through KTT's Wargame. These activities aim to help participants from Taiwan and abroad better understand the key dynamics and operational mechanisms of potential cross-strait military conflict. NAF ALPHA JETS: A COMBAT LEGACY FORGED IN FIRE Inducted into the Nigerian Air Force in the early 1980s, the Alpha Jet did not merely enter service, it announced a new era of fast-jet capability and operational confidence. Conceived as both an advanced trainer and a light-attack aircraft, the Alpha Jet rapidly proved it could fight as fiercely as it could train. Its defining moments were written in West Africa, where NAF Alpha Jets flew decisive combat missions under ECOMOG, striking hostile targets, disrupting enemy logistics, and delivering relentless close air support in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Years later, the aircraft again projected Nigerian resolve beyond its borders during stabilisation manoeuvres in The Gambia in 2017, supporting the enforcement of democratic mandates. At home, the Alpha Jet became synonymous with speed, precision, and authority, shaping generations of pilots, dominating contested airspace, and projecting Nigerian air power with unmistakable presence. Rugged, responsive, and battle-tested, the aircraft earned the fear-tinged nickname “Dudu Birds”, a testament to its dark silhouette, sudden appearance, and decisive impact wherever it was deployed. As Nigeria confronted insurgency, terrorism, and armed criminality, the Alpha Jet once again answered the call. Re-activated, sustained, and driven into high-tempo operations, it delivered punishing effects against hostile elements, escorting strike packages, interdicting enemy movements, and supporting troops in contact with lethal accuracy. The thunder of its engines over hostile territory became a psychological weapon, breaking enemy morale and reinforcing ground forces with visible air dominance. This combat legacy was paid for with courage and sacrifice, and the Nigerian Air Force honours the gallant Alpha Jet aircrew who flew into danger without hesitation, some of whom paid the supreme price in defence of the nation, etching their names permanently into Nigeria’s air power history. Today, that legacy is driving transition, not retirement. The NAF is aggressively modernising its fleet, inducting advanced multi-role and lead-in fighter platforms to assume and expand missions once undertaken by the Alpha Jet, with greater persistence, sensors, and survivability. Through this deliberate evolution, the Alpha Jet’s legacy is not fading, it is being institutionalised, as the Nigerian Air Force advances from a proven combat icon to a new generation of air power, sharper, smarter, and deadlier in defence of the nation. 𝗔 $𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗯 𝘃𝘀. 𝗮 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙮 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙎𝙚𝙖 Ukraine’s Security Service reports an underwater drone strike against a Russian Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class submarine at the naval base in Novorossiysk. If confirmed, this would be the first documented use of submersible strike drones against a docked submarine. According to Ukrainian reporting, the attack employed a new “Sub Sea Baby” system, an underwater evolution of earlier surface maritime drones. The Varshavyanka class, known to NATO as the Improved Kilo, is among Russia’s most capable diesel-electric submarines and a frequent launch platform for Kalibr cruise missiles used against Ukrainian cities. Russia denies damage, claiming the underwater vehicle detonated against a pier. Ukrainian-released footage shows a large underwater explosion adjacent to moored warships. Independent reporting confirms a detonation inside the harbor, though the extent of damage remains unverified. The strategic implication is clear. Novorossiysk was selected as a fallback base after Ukrainian surface drone operations forced Russia’s Black Sea Fleet out of Sevastopol and other Crimean peninsula ports. An underwater strike inside that harbor signals that relocation alone does not restore sanctuary. Port defenses appear increasingly inadequate against low-signature, expendable systems designed for confined maritime environments. A single Varshavyanka-class submarine is typically valued at $400–500 million. Ukraine’s maritime drones cost a fraction of that. Even without confirmed destruction, forcing submarines to remain in port degrades Russia’s strike capacity and shifts operational pressure.
