⭕️ BREAKING: Witkoff tells a conference in Miami that the US is “in the middle of standing up a decommissioning process [for] weapons – a demilitarization and amnesty program.” He hopes to have the plan fully ready in the next three weeks. The plan is a key part of US proposal for a UN-mandated international security force in Gaza. “Hamas has always said that we’re going to need the international security force to come in here and be the layer [that] they give the weapons to,” Witkoff says. “That’ll be the inflection point where we see if everyone’s going to do as they say and demilitarize,” he says. Hamas has recently indicated a willingness to relinquish its heavy weapons as part of a broader agreement that guarantees a political horizon toward Palestinian self-determination. However, it insists on retaining light arms for self-defense—particularly as Israel has armed and financed several rival militias across Gaza opposed to Hamas. Axios previously reported that the UN-mandated force would be looking to deploy by early January.
