Alberta has 5 million residents. A petition for a referendum on Alberta independence gathered under 500,000 signatures after stalls were set up across the province. So roughly 10% of the population wants to ask whether Alberta should separate from Canada. People absolutely have the right to voice frustration with the federal government’s treatment of Alberta’s oil and gas economy. That conversation is valid. But this feels more like political theatre than a serious path to separation. The likely outcome? More pipeline projects, stronger energy negotiations and Alberta remains part of Canada. Keep pushing for Alberta’s interests, but also focus on strengthening Canada and improving alignment with our biggest trading partner, the USA 🇺🇸
