The truth about breast-feeding and breast cancer Is it true that 1 in 20 breast cancers could be prevented by breast feeding? This was a statement lifted from the Lancet Breast Cancer Commission Report published yesterday - but it’s a global estimate that assumes EVERY woman in EVERY country has an average of 6 children and breastfeeds them for 1-2 years. The facts - breastfeeding one child for 12 months reduces your lifetime risk of breast cancer by 4% That’s a drop from 17% to 16.4% - so the actual impact is small. The Report wants to increase breast-feeding education and support globally as en masse this will reduce the numbers of breast cancer - but you don’t need to feel guilty if you didn’t breastfeed for that long or didn’t have children If you want to find out your own individual risk of breast cancer, check out the iPrevent tool - Thanks to Wanda (Wanyuan) Cui The Lancet Breast Cancer Now

Wait, are we really breastfeeding babies with dry breasts now? 😭😂 Jokes aside, men don’t normally produce breast milk, so putting a baby to a dry breast isn’t a substitute for proper infant feeding. If breastfeeding isn’t possible, there are safe alternatives recommended by health professionals. Be honest: would you allow your baby to be fed this way? Why?

So now food stamps should be mandatory just for having kids? No. What should be mandatory is responsibility. Nobody forced you to lay down and make that baby—so why should taxpayers be forced to fund the outcome? The government is not your baby daddy.
