Even though this is from an older podcast, Jimmy Carr’s take still hits different: “The Roman Empire didn’t fall. It became the Church.” And the British Empire? According to Jimmy, it didn’t collapse either — it simply turned into a bank. We handed the colonies back with a polite “sorry about that,” then offered to “hold” all their money safely in the City of London. Roman Empire → Vatican British Empire → Global financial hub Empires don’t die. They just rebrand. Still one of the most provocatively entertaining history takes I’ve heard. What’s your favourite “history didn’t end, it just changed form” observation?

One of the main problems Americans face as the Empire declines is that we are ruled by grifters and idiots. When the British Empire fell, it slowly disengaged with its more imperialist impulses. The American Empire, on the other hand, has both of its political parties ramping up the nation's militarism, and as a result is inflicting massive suffering on the global populace as it falls.

Indian gentleman vs. Oxford University students. The British Empire was a force for good, the 5 richest African countries were once British colonies or protectorates. We brought democracy to countries all over the Empire. We built hospitals, schools, courts and sanitation systems. We outlawed widow burning in India, we stopped slavery across the empire, we gave people the opportunity to work and earn. We did far more good than bad yet schools governed by left wing crazies would have you believe it was an Empire of monsters and takers. They’re wrong.
