Idaho: Incredible work being done up on the Salmon Challis National Forest. They completed thousands of acres of prescribed fire this last week. You can see the vast amounts of dead standing fuels they are trying to mitigate. “Salmon-Challis National Forest staff successfully implemented 2,200 acres of prescribed fire, 13 miles east of Mackay, Idaho. This prescribed burn is part of the South Lost River Restoration Project. The purpose of this project is to improve forest health stand conditions and wildlife habitat by introducing fire back into a landscape that has missed historic fire return intervals. Missed fire intervals have led to declining forest stand health resulting from high tree densities and tight closed canopies. Using fire under prescribed conditions will result in canopy mortality and ground vegetation reduction that will improve stand health and wildlife habitat. Fire severities are expected to vary across prescribed fire area with some areas experiencing high severity fire which may result in 2-20 acre stand openings due to fire mortality.” Thanks to the individual who shared this view of the burn.

Here is footage from Brian Wilcox who has been flying missions over Nebraska, including the Cottonwood Fire, now 100,000 acres. Edmonton police have dismantled a series of encampments located near 184 Street and 105 Avenue, following a large fire reported to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. The encampments consisted of four structures, including one under construction with insulated floors and walls made from new materials, as well as multiple open fire pits and piles of garbage and waste. During the operation, officers discovered weapons, including a cattle prod, two replica guns, and nearly a dozen knives. A 48-year-old male with a history of property-related crimes was arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000, while a 33-year-old female at the site accepted access to services at the Navigation Centre. Both individuals have received housing referrals through the Human-centered Engagement and Liaison Partnership Unit (HELP). Cleanup of the site is expected to take several days.

Edmonton police have dismantled a series of encampments located near 184 Street and 105 Avenue, following a large fire reported to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. The encampments consisted of four structures, including one under construction with insulated floors and walls made from new materials, as well as multiple open fire pits and piles of garbage and waste. During the operation, officers discovered weapons, including a cattle prod, two replica guns, and nearly a dozen knives. A 48-year-old male with a history of property-related crimes was arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000, while a 33-year-old female at the site accepted access to services at the Navigation Centre. Both individuals have received housing referrals through the Human-centered Engagement and Liaison Partnership Unit (HELP). Cleanup of the site is expected to take several days.
