Can you name a better bass player?

Paul McCartney is widely regarded as the best bass player in rock history, and for good reason. His talent isn’t just technical, it’s musical, innovative, and trailblazing.

He is a legend in all perspectives.

John "Thunderfingers" Entwistle(The Who).

Ahh, such a bad@ss

Les Claypool

🤘🥁🎸

Yes, I can name a few. My favorites are Jaco Pastorius and John Paul Jones.

Cool ones!

👊🤘

I’d say “Geezer Butler” of Black Sabbath who was also the primary lyricist

That's a brilliant choice

John Taylor of Duran Duran @duranduran

@duranduran 🎸🎸

Geddy F’ing Lee

John Entwhistle was the greatest bass player of all time in my totally biased opinion.

Yes. Of course. Better or best is not the point, or the question. It’s doing the best with what you have in your own musical context.

Geddy

Les Claypool, Tony Levin.

Cough cough

Yes - Misa fom Band Maid.

The best bass players are the ones you don't notice.

Phil Lesh

Squire, Lesh, Jaco, Mingus, Danko, Levin and Clarke come to mind.

Robert DeLeo from STP doesn't get enough props. Just saw him with Joe Perry project he knows how to keep everything going!

Billy Sheehan Chris Squire John Entwisle John Myung I can keep going, but that's enough.

John Myung Les Claypool Steve Harris Geddy Lee

Lemmy isn’t even in the top 20 wtf….cool guy, trail blazer…..but come on…..

Jack Casady.

This must be a more metal crowd, but c’mon, nobody here has mentioned this guy👇 🇺🇸♠️🃏🖤🖕

Nothing against Duff but to find the best bass player you have to go back a couple decades before this . It’s Jack Bruce from Cream. The opening bass line from Sunshine of your love practically invented heavy metal. In fact a music critic commenting on the song said it sounded like heavy metal falling from the sky. Hence the term. Jack said that he had just watched a western movie and was trying to replicate the sound that came on when the Indians appeared on the horizon. Either way this was one of the many examples that cemented Jack’s reputation as the best bassist in Rock.

Lee Sklar and/or Jaco

There was a lefthanded base player from some group called the Beatles back in the 60s.

Victor Wooten

G Lee

Steve Harris Bootsy Collins Jon Entwhistle

Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, John Entwhistle. Jaco Pastorius, Tal Wilkenfeld, Rhonda Smith, Flea, Bootsy Collins, John Paul Jones. No specific order there, I was just naming them off the top of my head and Im sure Im forgetting some greats

John Paul jones by a mile
