even on a finite planet utilizing things more efficiently is growth and could actually lead to less overall physical consumption. see: rich economies prioritize environmental standards; or japan - shrinking demos, profitable enterprise, continuously prosperous people.

“Companies and people managing their money poorly are loosing their money! Capitolism is failing! SMH” Infinite growth isn’t Capitolism, it’s economic vampirism for boomers and shareholders.

Agree. I would also emphasize one of the most basic things that people in that discussion fail to grasp. Technological development changes what resources are valuable and necessary thus also reducing the need for any one resource. That is the primary driver of growth.

She made it seem like the declines in the stock prices of AI companies is irrelevant. In the short run, it has little effect on people’s life, but if the AI stock slump continues, innovation will slow immensely because companies won’t be able to raise new capital to fund infrastructure projects. This is coming at a time where AI CapEx and technological infrastructure buildout is becoming increasingly more important to U.S. GDP growth.

She starts off talking about the stock market and when she talks about infinite growth, I think she is conflating the stock market and capitalism, though her point about infinite growth is wrong on both accounts.
