Today, CNBC released a new video with Consumer Reports comparing driver-assist systems. But there's a problem… in the video, they used Tesla's Autopilot, not Tesla's FSD (Supervised), and compared that to the top offerings in other automakers' cars. CNBC also claimed that Tesla lacked an effective driver monitoring camera, but Tesla does have one—so much so that some Tesla owners complain about its sensitivity. Camera based driver attention monitoring is less strict for Autopilot than it is for FSD (Supervised). Not once in the video did they test the latest version of Tesla's FSD. Consumer Reports says Ford and GM have the best driver assist systems. The Mercedes system they praise in the video is extremely limited and can only work on highways. Tesla's FSD (Supervised) will work on virtually any road in the US/Canada.

Major FSD/Autopilot/Cruise control issue Tesla Just got my 5th strike this trip on FSD for literally using the weather map on the built in screen. Now.. I don’t even have basic cruise control. I have 1,500 miles to drive back to Colorado in a few days. What an absolute joke!

The idea that Tesla is alone in the race to develop end-to-end vision system for self-driving and delivering into consumer vehicles is officially dead. Like dead, dead. I tested Xpeng's VLA 2.0 in the streets of Beijing, and it is comparable to my experience of daily driving Tesla FSD v14. Xpeng is not charging $100 a month to drive this. It is inlcuded in its higher-trim vehicles and it already caught the attention of Volkswagen, which is going to integrate into its own vehicles - something Tesla hasn't been able to do despite trying. He added that Li Auto’s autonomous driving team is aiming to reach that level. A new The Wall Street Journal investigation gathered video and data from over 200 Tesla Autopilot crashes, revealing that longstanding concerns about Tesla’s camera-based technology, which differs from the rest of the industry, are showing up on the roads and putting the public at risk.⁠ The data uncovered from redacted information for more than 1000 Tesla autopilot crashes submitted to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration since 2021, reveals 44 of the crashes occurred when Teslas in autopilot veered suddenly and 32 occurred when a Tesla in autopilot failed to stop or yield for an obstacle in front of it–with some resulting in fatalities. Autopilot then re-engages — and immediately tries to move the car to the right 🤦🏼‍♂️ A completely unsafe and potentially life-threatening situation. This is not Tesla’s fault. This is your responsibility. Because of UNECE rules, Tesla can barely improve Autopilot at all. Every update under these constraints makes Autopilot worse instead of better. Tesla isn’t allowed to properly fix or enhance AP anymore — and that’s exactly why this keeps happening. Unsafe behavior. No real improvements. And growing risk for drivers. I installed comma in my car Their tagline is “make driving chill” which is accurate! I have pretty good confidence relying on it to drive most of the time, feels way “chiller” than Tesla autopilot (I haven’t driven the new FSD) It’s awesome that you can self install (~30min) a $1450 device with 3 cameras from a company of ~20 ppl and mostly be able to let it drive for you. It taps into the cars existing driver assist system and takes it over. There are a bunch of different forks; I’ve been using Sunnypilot. It’s not plug and play and there is stuff to figure out but it’s INCREDIBLE what this little device and small team can do. It’s actually quite disappointing that it just isn’t built into most cars.

This is my favorite Black Skimmer video because it perfectly illustrates the beauty of flight and this bird’s mastery of it and its environment. Watch how it makes a full 180-degree turn using its tail while keeping its head perfectly stable and its eye on the prize. It’s hard for me to fathom the amount of thinking that even goes into this process, and yet the Black Skimmer does it all on autopilot. What an amazing animal.
