casually messing with godot, 2.5d on-rails camera #gamedev

Wahoo moment

a few people asking me about implementation details, might cook something up

super saucy for a test!

Bro drop the sauce plz. I looked up tutorials a long ass time ago on how to do something like this because I'm a big klonoa fan and couldnt find anything. Path node?

Very interesting! Is this a rework of Umbrella Warriors or something akin to that or is this unrelated?

thanks, idk, i've yet to figure that out, might turn out to be something else entirely

this is so cool

Welcome back klonoa

based and klonoa pilled

Vividlope 2: Hoppin' Mad

the children yearn for klonoa

THIS ROCKS HARD!!! so by just pressing right the camera is changing automatically?

thanks, yes, the character moves forward-backward on a path

Godot's camera system is so underrated for this kind of thing. The fact that you can get that depth feel without going full 3D makes it perfect for smaller teams that don't want to drown in perspective bugs.

that is full 3d, 2.5d in this context referred to two dimensional movement of the character

mixed up renderer and movement constraint. the movement lock is the whole design - full 3D feels illegible the second a camera has to track 360 degrees

klonoa…

They yearn for Klonoa

Le gasp!!! VIVIDLOPE 2 IS REAL!!!

@MegaDriveBrad NICE! This is something I'm quietly dabbling in too. You using splines?

yeah path3d

Ahh that's a Godot thing?

yeah it's pretty much a wrapping for a spline

Welcome back Kirby 64

What was your technique for doing this? Did you use curves? Are you able to share the project?

I am furious there is only one sonic and kirby game like this

god put you on this earth to make klonoa 3

Kitty cat!?!

hello klonoa

@HedgeTechInst Oh this that Klonoa camera 🔥

this is so cool was this made using paths ? and if so how was the diverging paths at the end implemented ? thi

it's paths in a wrapper, objects simply switch between the path they're following on a trigger

Ain't this is just Klonoa-

This looks really cool! It's a shame more developers don't play with something like this more often.

good lord this could be a great klonoa inspired

Whoa this is cool as hell!

Reminds me of Klonoa

this is really cool!! good job

This reminds me on Klonoa. I can't wait to see more :)

I assume this is just a Path3D you manually set, or are you solving this programmatically?

the trails the characters are on are paths, the camera had to be solved differently as godot does not seem to offer an out-of-box solution for syncing up two paths of different length and joint number

Amazing! Are you using Path3D, or is it a custom implementation? Is the character's gravity at 9.8 or did you make any adjustments?

Make the next Klonoa

Please tell me how you did it, i've been trying to do a 2.5d camera for a while now but i haven't gotten any closer to making one 💀
