The driver backed a (stolen) car into the doors, then pried his way into the church. When deputies arrived, they saw the vehicle leaving the scene. A deputy tried to pull over the driver, who fled. After a short pursuit, stop sticks were deployed, which disabled the vehicle. The suspect stopped and surrendered without further incident. Beaufort County deputy has been placed on leave while an investigation is conducted following this video being posted on social media of him pulling his firearm and pointing it at two teens who were walking down Squiresgate Road on Hilton Head Island. I'm in Hilton Head a lot and I'm pretty sure that's a gated private community (there are tons of them on the island) which is quite nice. It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of one of our deputies. On Monday afternoon around 3:40 p.m., a 21-year-old off-duty deputy was involved in a traffic collision on San Francisquito Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. He was transported to Henry Mayo Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Our deputy joined the Department on May 2, 2024, and had recently completed the academy. He was proudly serving at the North County Correctional Facility, dedicating himself to protecting and helping others. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our own, who was taken from us far too soon,” said Sheriff Robert G. Luna. “Our Deputy dedicated his life to the service and safety of others, both in and out of uniform. His commitment to public safety was not just a job—it was who he was. A resident recently tagged the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and shared this after a stressful situation on Parker Road: “Douglas County Sheriff's Office for the win today! My car died with no power in a main lane of traffic today on Parker Road. I could not turn on my hazards because there was no power. It was very stressful because people were screaming and yelling at me, flipping me off and honking at me. Finally, Deputy Castillo stopped and got under the hood of the car and played with the battery and all the connections and was able to get my car started. I'm so very grateful for Deputy Castillo." While heading home, Deputy Castillo noticed several vehicles slowing down and swerving around a stalled car. Recognizing the danger to both the driver and passing motorists, he immediately pulled in behind the vehicle and activated his emergency lights to protect the scene. The driver’s vehicle had completely lost power, leaving her stranded in the traffic lane. Thanks to a little mechanical know-how and a willingness to help, he was able to restore power and get the driver safely on her way. Moments like this are a reminder that our deputies are always watching out for the community, not for recognition, but because serving others is simply what they do. Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

NEW: Florida deputy shot while responding to a call where a man allegedly shot someone who was clearing out their own lot. The incident started when a man and a woman called 911, claiming someone was harassing them. While on the phone with a dispatcher, the caller was shot by the suspect, Aaron Rodriguez. The man collapsed and later died. When police arrived, they found Rodriguez in a nearby house where a gunfight ensued. "The suspect then shoots an innocent person. He then shoots another innocent person. He then goes into his garage and when deputies order him to drop his gun, he doesn’t," Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said. "If you play with glass, you’re going to get cut. If you point a gun at a Pasco deputy, you’re going to get shot and that’s what happened today. There are no apologies. There’s no sympathy. He got shot, and I feel horrible for the victims." "Whether he dies, he dies and if he lives, he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison or he’ll get the death penalty, but his life will no longer be the same because of his actions today." The deputy and Rodriguez were both sent to the hospital. The deputy is expected to recover.

This afternoon, protesters descended upon the Douglas County Courthouse Complex, a location the DCSO is statutorily obligated to protect. Sheriff Hanson greeted protesters, thanked them for peacefully exercising their rights, and assured them that the DCSO there to keep them and everyone in the complex safe.

While visiting Magic Kingdom, a young boy wasn’t chasing down Disney characters for autographs. He was more interested in real-life heroes. When he spotted Deputy James McDonel, he ran over and asked for an autograph. Deputy McDonel signed his book and took it a step further by deputizing him on the spot, complete with a junior deputy badge. The boy’s mom recorded the moment and sent it to us, and we’re proud to share it here.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy in Virginia conducted a routine wellness check on Michael Puckett on Friday when he ambushed the officers and opened fire. Deputy Logan Utt was shot and killed, and another officer was shot and injured during the shooting. Puckett then fled the scene and led the FBI, US Marshals, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives on a 2-day manhunt. As we begin #NationalPedestrianSafety month, this particular incident should serve as a reminder to take an extra few seconds to ensure the path you are turning into is clear of those in the crosswalk. #DCSO Deputy Montgomery was working traffic enforcement when he spotted this car turning left on a flashing yellow turn signal, almost into the path of two cyclists (one a child) in the crosswalk. The cyclists had the right-of-way. The driver is responsible for ensuring the path is clear before they turn; this means that no one is in the crosswalk. Thinking you could make it before the pedestrian or cyclist gets across is a huge safety risk that no one should take. #DriveSmartandSafe

🚨BREAKING: Law enforcement were filmed slamming a peaceful protester’s head into the sidewalk, during an anti-ICE protest, in St. Paul, MN. In the video, protesters are peacefully walking down the sidewalk when Hennepin County Sheriff’s deputies approach from behind… targeting the end of the group. Without warning, deputies begin pepper spraying protesters, grabbing them, throwing them to the ground, and arresting them. These protesters were walking away, they posed no threat. Then, it gets even more disturbing… One deputy grabs a protester’s shield, which becomes caught on the protester’s hand. Rather than de-escalating, a second deputy strikes the protester in the face… sending them falling backward. While the protester is on the ground, hand still tangled in the shield and completely defenseless, the deputy slams their head against the sidewalk. The same deputy then kneels on the protester, continuing to push their head into the pavement, even though they aren’t resisting… their hand is just stuck... and he stays on top of the protester until the other deputy finally frees the piece of plastic from the protester’s hand. So, let’s break down what we just saw… Deputies approached protesters from behind, used pepper spray on people who were walking away, and then a deputy punched a restrained person in the face, and repeatedly slammed their head into concrete while kneeling on them. Striking a non-resisting person in the face, and forcing their head into pavement, is assault. It doesn’t matter what uniform you’re wearing. Excessive force by law enforcement is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, which protects against the use of unreasonable force during an arrest. These deputies were on camera assaulting peaceful protesters, violating the constitution, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office needs to answer for what happened.
