Eliud Kipchoge’s 1:59:40 marathon run is truly insane when you break down the numbers: ▫️4:35 per mile pace (the record for one mile is 3:43 and he kept the pace 26x) ▫️OR 2:50 per KM pace (he did it 42x and each kilometre was within 2:48 to 2:52) ▫️The average men’s marathon time for 5km is ~30 mins (Kipchoge’s 5km pace was 14:13 mins, which he did ~8x) ▫️The world record 10km run is 26:11 (Kipchoge’s 5km pace was 28:26 which he did ~4x) ▫️His 100m pace was 17 seconds, which he did 422x ▫️The 21km per hour pace (or 13 miles per hour) isn’t even available on some treadmills The sub-2 hour run — which was staged in Vienna in 2019 — is unreal but doesn’t count for marathon record purposes. Why? Because the event was optimized for Kipchoge: coaches brought him water and he had pacemakers (including a car laying down a laser beam). The human pacemakers might be my favourite part. They were 41 of the world’s top runners with >50 combined medals at Olympics and World Championships. All knew Kipchoge was the GOAT and chipped in. Kipchoge’s pace was so punishing that the pacemakers swapped in and out at 5-minute intervals. The best part — shown below — is when Kipchoge waves them off at the end and they cheer him on as he goes HAM to the finish line.

This timelapse of Alex Honnold’s 1 hour 35 minute free solo climb of Taipei 101 is unreal. He said the main challenge was “not getting complacent up the bamboo boxes, because it’s 64 of the same sequence over and over.” His music playlist (mostly Tool) helped because each bamboo box took about the length of a song and he could keep pace. Honnold wants to climb other mega skyscrapers if allowed. Thinks Taipei 101 was the ideal challenge, though: “This one is so perfect for climbing. [open-source motion capture system⬇️] Built at low cost, a motion capture system for tracking & and flying drones autonomously, with millimeter-level precision at room-scale. The student used $1 PS3 Eye cameras with 150fps capability. The challenge? PID tuning! It took him 4 days of crashes to get the drone to hover, but it's still wobbly. Used a 3x nested PID loop for precise control. This project led to his dissertation on visual SLAM! Testing continues to progress on the new UI / UX in the StackR marketplace and buying / selling of VeVe | Digital Collectibles using $OMI has never been easier or more enjoyable! Community Challenge: 1) List 1 eligible comic / collectible on for 2,000-5,000 OMI to familiarize yourself with the market and test the listing process (pick an item that trades for $1-$2 on VeVe, don’t use something expensive!) 2) Buy 1 listing from the marketplace in the 2,000-5,000 OMI range and relist the item for the same amount that you purchased it for to test the buying process and allow the previous user to buy their item back if they wish.
