Celtic In Possession vs Rangers 1st Half vs 2nd Half 1st half: • CB's played long passes looking for runners in-behind. Safety 1st approach - lack of 'up-back-through' passing patterns. • "U-shaped" build-up along back 4, easy to press. • McGregor isolated - lack of additional midfield support to find the free man (usually opposite CB). • FBs & Wingers both on touchline - lack of rotation. 2nd half: • The 'Hatate' factor - added quality, gave McGregor support, asked more questions of Rangers' midfield. • FBs & Wingers stop receiving on the same line - FBs moved inside at times allowing CB to pass directly into Tounekti / Forrest. • As Rangers tired, Celtic were able to further utilise their 3v2 in midfield, causing defenders to jump out and gaps to appear.

Celtic: Progressive Play Problems Rangers change in formation & man for man press can account for a slow start to the game but after half-time, the lack of change would have been a slight concern. Slight tweaks were available: > Inverting Fullbacks like Postecoglou > Allowing Wingers 1v1 > Getting Players Around McGregor > Getting Baur and Nygren Closer to Hogh Plenty of examples where Celtic's movements, when inverting or overlapping, looked off the cuff: > No Clear Trigger > No Movements at Speed > Often 3 Players on Same Line (LB, LCAM and LW) Instead Celtic started to play into the exact game McInnes' would have envisioned and trying to go quite direct. I would be very surprised if we didn't learn Tierney was still struggling with a knock & this Sunday coming, I would expect a different Celtic with more intent in movements and ball speed to disrupt Rangers structure. Think this could be a really good tactical battle this weekend

Rangers: Back-3 Build Issue The 3rd Goal summed everything I dislike about trying to build in this Back-3: > Removing a Player from the Middle > 4 Players Now Infront of Celtic's Full Team > Seperating CB's from Key Areas But more than that, Rangers don't appear to have a "Pattern" or "Rotation" to actually build, it's almost always: > Play to CB on Outside > Ask CB to Drive & Play Through Lines > Or Build Direct but with Less Numbers for 2nd Balls Celtic Took Full Advantage: > McGregor Recognises the Overload > Nygren Understands Djiga "Out of Picture" > Overload on Diomande & Turnover the Ball Distances With & Against the Ball for Rangers is a real concern and that's the 3rd Team in a Row that's provided a blue print to play against.

This video is 2 different clips from 75 seconds apart: > Ralston correctly inverted when ball is on the other side > Good distances if Celtic lost it > Tierney correctly inverted at the start of the throw-in > Drops wider away from structure and closer to Rangers players > Celtic Midfielders do not help McGregor > Trusty not scanning for Tierney & if he did, would have been able to engage Similar to Rangers goal conceded, multiple mini-errors will not go unpunished in big games. Thoughts?

Rangers: Inverting James Penrice Rangers have struggled so far to progress play and really implement a "Style" to Build from the Back under McInnes. Last night we tried to invert James Penrice in the 1st Half, similar with Dragojevic v Jagiellonia, but that requires a lot of work. 1. Worked on the Training Pitch with the Team: > Allows the Player (Penrice) to Feel It > Helps the Player Understand WHEN & WHY > Allows CB's to Understand WHEN to Play It > Gives a Chance to CM's to see "Counter-Movements" Then the coaches can address any tweaks based on how Jablonec press & where the gaps are 2. Individual Work on Training Pitch (5-10mins) > Fullbacks are used to having pitch infront of them > Work on Back-Foot Receiving > Work on Playing Passes through Lines > Work on Driving Inside the Pitch > Underlapping from an Inside 8 Position & Crossing 3. 121 Analysis with the Analysts (15-20mins) > Show Player Visuals from Previous Game > Show Player Examples of Good Inverting (Ange Teams) It is very clear that we have just told James Penrice to play as an "Inverted Fullback" & not done any training ground preparation or in-depth 121 Analysis of it to help him. Absolutely none of that sits with James Penrice, I watched the work Ange Postecoglou did at Celtic with Harry Kewell on 121 work with Greg Taylor, Alastair Johnston & the other fullbacks.

Last season at ibrox Celtic got a penalty for this If anything the deflection of Sterlings hand made it harder for Butland to save Although 1 is Celtic actually scoring and this one is rangers defending how can this be given as handball if Hogh isn’t Sterling knows nothing about this his hands are natural based on jumping Maeda heads it from about a inch away from Sterling yeah it hit his hand but like Hogh it was a accident no surprise Celtic got this penalty Not one Celtic player claimed for that penalty btw

The change in formation to 3-5-2ish (3-3-4 at times) and use of James Penrice was a masterstroke with and without the ball: > Man for Man on Nygren in CM > Bravery at the Back Man for Man > Penrice in Transition Goes Wide from CM > Penrice & Gassama Movements in Possession It stopped Celtic being able to build effectively through lines and eventually started playing into the hands: > Fernandez Won Everything Against Hogh > Makhanya Got Better of Duran > Similar problems to LASK in Players on Edge of Box Dan Neil rightly MOTM but Derek McInnes deserves every bit of respect for this performance Next Sunday could be a very interesting tactical watch as Celtic will have an adjustment to counter that press.

It is a HUGE risk but you can see why Rangers were alerted to the gamble and decided to take it

Rangers Press: Man for Man Risk It is really difficult to instruct players to go man for man, in my opinion, when you play a well-coached team. Rangers kept launching into a press from no structure: > Open to Central Passes > Players 10-Yards Off the Next Press > Gambling Wrong-side & Allowing Teams Forward Then there is also a lack of reading the moments & in 2nd Half for me, it's wild. Seen it in the stadium at the time, Shankland was telling Raskin to stay in CM: > Raskin Jumps 15 Yards > Shankland Retreats 30 Yards > Opp. LB Going Nowhere Shankland tries to communicate something but I am unsure to who but a lot of wasted energy in these moments in and already energy sapping game which we were winning...
