Rangers: Defending & Dujon Decisions It is the first game of the season and if this was an isolated lack of concentration, it wouldn't even have been analysed in this way. Value in Visuals as a Coach We have all had a laugh at the Tactics Board but in reality the advantages in showing visuals were clear from the 2 adjustments made against Hearts. 1st Adjustment on Tactic Board: > Switched to a Front-2 > Abandoned WB's in favour of Wingers > McGregor as the Single-CDM 2nd Adjusment on Tactic Board: > Tierney Moved from LCB to LWB > Creating a Yang/Hatate/Tierney Left-Side Overload > Switched to a Back-2 > Abandoned Full Right-Side (Hearts had been playing on it anyway) Celtic after the 2nd Adjustment: > 1 Goal > 5 Chances at Goal > xG of 0.78 If Nancy had done this using a Notepad, Sky wouldn't even have cut to him & tried to use it as a stick to beat him with but reality is, even in football, you might have players better at visual learning than verbal communication.

Last season at ibrox Celtic got a penalty for this If anything the deflection of Sterlings hand made it harder for Butland to save Although 1 is Celtic actually scoring and this one is rangers defending how can this be given as handball if Hogh isn’t Sterling knows nothing about this his hands are natural based on jumping Maeda heads it from about a inch away from Sterling yeah it hit his hand but like Hogh it was a accident no surprise Celtic got this penalty Not one Celtic player claimed for that penalty btw

Rangers: 121/Unit Analysis Example Same disclaimers, this isn't "having a go" or "singling out" players, just simply an example of the type of Performance Analysis I do with International Footballers. If I was reviewing the Midfield Unit at Rangers today and having 121/Unit meetings with the 4 CM's this is where I'd be focussed. Playing Forward It is far too lazy just to show examples and go, we didn't get the ball forward or we didn't get Aasgaard into the game. You need to go deeper: > How Do We Get Aasgaard on the Ball? > Can Midfielders Adjust to Play Forward? > What Adjustments Would Help? > Show Video Scenarios & Discuss In all of these clips, it's so vital on the little adjustments: > Constantly Scanning for the Space > Adjusting to the Opposition > Body-Shape When Receiving > Knowing the Next Pass I don't believe Rangers do any of this on a 121 Level or Unit Level just now but it is an absolute necessity game to game to help develop individuals and a team. No Rangers players are my clients, work with me, or have ever worked with myself 👌

Alternative angle of the Calmac stramash, with Trusty playing the part of peacemaker, shooing away Barron & the odious Moore in the manner a schools ref would dismiss an unruly kid. It's at times like these I wish Celtic had a Roy Keane "hard man" type in the team. I'm not one to condone violence but there were plenty of Rangers players just asking for a slap across the puss during this incident. Our current squad are a bit on the wimpy side when it comes to that sort of thing. NOTE: no offence to anyone who identifies as a wimp.

Here is James Tavernier in 2 of the last 3 Home Games: - Takes Same Shot with Low xG - Cerny has a higher xG if passed - Players in Box with even higher xG If we were coached using data, similarly to the way Brentford/Thomas Frank do it, i do not believe we would see the same mistakes made in such a short space of time. This is the way, i am 100% convinced, Hearts & Aberdeen are going to close the gap to us (if we close it to Aberdeen) whilst it increases from Celtic.

The reason for the Box-4 Rest-Defence structure in this video: > 1 or 2 Extra Men Defending > CB's Can Drop for Ball Over the Top > Central 2 Can Take Short Passes & Press > Stops Dangerous Transitions > Recycles Attacks as a Result Spain throughout the Euros and WC did the Box-4 you will see in this video & barely gave up a chance & that's with a much higher calibre of player. Motherwell also performed a Box-4 or at least +1 Defending in large spells last season and had a hugely successful defensive records for most of the season. It requires constant concentration and players that live in that mindset throughout the full 90.

Rangers Midfield: Progressing Play Disclaimer in the video, I am not "picking on" the players involved, I am giving my Analysis of, in my opinion, what I expect of Midfielders. In most of these clips, it is alarming how often: > Forward Pass is Missed > No Scanning to Approach the Play > Poor Body Shape & Distancing to Play Forward Then the end clip in the 50th minute, around Rest-Defence, is just another red flag of lack of discipline either in the structure or players. I watch Manny Fernandez closely, shouting at people to "not go" and leave Rangers in 3v2 counter attacks without a midfield in front of them. You can't be refusing forward passes, lack structure & be successful in the long run.

Rangers: Back-3 Build Issue The 3rd Goal summed everything I dislike about trying to build in this Back-3: > Removing a Player from the Middle > 4 Players Now Infront of Celtic's Full Team > Seperating CB's from Key Areas But more than that, Rangers don't appear to have a "Pattern" or "Rotation" to actually build, it's almost always: > Play to CB on Outside > Ask CB to Drive & Play Through Lines > Or Build Direct but with Less Numbers for 2nd Balls Celtic Took Full Advantage: > McGregor Recognises the Overload > Nygren Understands Djiga "Out of Picture" > Overload on Diomande & Turnover the Ball Distances With & Against the Ball for Rangers is a real concern and that's the 3rd Team in a Row that's provided a blue print to play against.

McInnes Masterclass: Use of James Penrice Derek McInnes needs to be given all the credit and praise for the Game-Plan in Rangers 3-0 win over Celtic. The change in formation to 3-5-2ish (3-3-4 at times) and use of James Penrice was a masterstroke with and without the ball: > Man for Man on Nygren in CM > Bravery at the Back Man for Man > Penrice in Transition Goes Wide from CM > Penrice & Gassama Movements in Possession It stopped Celtic being able to build effectively through lines and eventually started playing into the hands: > Fernandez Won Everything Against Hogh > Makhanya Got Better of Duran > Similar problems to LASK in Players on Edge of Box Dan Neil rightly MOTM but Derek McInnes deserves every bit of respect for this performance Next Sunday could be a very interesting tactical watch as Celtic will have an adjustment to counter that press.
