A very simple, but excellent clip here of Man City practicing Sub-Principles (Defensive Line Principles) from their Game Model. Not everything has to reinvent the wheel. Notice the full back looking down the line to adjust its height. Look at the age-old principles of play: pressure, cover and balance. Observe advancing and retreating as a line (protecting the space in front or protecting the space behind) to avoid gaps in between line or between players in lines. Identical to the #KingKnightEd sub-principles for the Defensive Line.

Defending in the Middle Third: > Protect/Cover Central Passes & Players > CB's Pass on CF/CAM's When It's Too High > CM's Drop on & pick up > Pressing Should be Secondary Defending In the Defensive Third: > Protect Box/Central Passes into CF's/10s > Force Wide & Then Defend Crosses > Allow Players on Edge with Numbers Behind as a Last Resort Continually we seem to lack real concentration for "Where the danger is"? > Worrying about irrelevant wide-men > Trying to Press when there's a man in the hole unmarked & too high for CB's > Lack of intense recovery sprints to get back behind the ball This is clips from 4 different managers/coaches & I could have pulled similar issues under Barry Ferguson

Rangers: Defensive Disorganisation As an Analyst, working in football, I always try to tow-the-line of being respectful about professional players when covering them but I am also a Rangers fan. What I have watched in the last 4 games is utterly astonishing from Coaching Principles to Player Responsibility: > Man-Marking or Ball-Orientated Defending? > Analysed & Addressed? > Player Reactions & Responsibility? > Player Pride & Work-Rate? The lack of responsibility and people willing to actually do the basics like run & do hard yards for each other is actually disgusting to watch as a fan and unprofessional to watch as an analyst.
