🚹 Akademiks says “THANK YOU” to Kendrick Lamar for HELPING Drake bounce back after the battle by not keeping his foot on the gas Ak says Kendrick not dropping music and staying active gave Drake room to regain momentum. “After the battle, Kendrick needed to keep his foot on the gas to make it a tough time for Drake in the future. He didn’t.” Ak says “heavy is the head if you’re gonna wear the crown,” arguing Kendrick doesn’t release frequently enough to keep control of the conversation. He says the result makes Drake look “TEFLON” even to people who believe he lost the battle: “As soon as Drake drops the some shit, people love Drake again.”

🚹 JBP debates whether Drake could actually BEAT Jay-Z in a rap battle and says the Kendrick loss may have made Drake more prepared this time They say Drake is “not a walk in the park for nobody” and one person argues he may even be the one more capable of landing the decisive record: “I don’t see Drake getting smoked no more.” They also speculate Drake could attack the idea that Jay “ain’t really down for y’all” and lean into the criticism people have been making about Hov being more business-minded than for the people though the room debates whether Drake could credibly take that angle They still say Jay would be much harder to turn the public against than Drake was during the Kendrick battle Via The Joe Budden Podcast

🚹 Glasses Malone says Drake beating Meek Mill helped create Drake’s “villain origin story” and says that’s when Drake started leaning harder into a gangster/tough guy persona “He went from just being a cool dude that was multi-talented, super successful, to like, ‘I’m that nigga.’ And it’s like, hold on, bro, you’re not a nigga at all.” Glasses says he was actually rooting for Drake against Meek because he felt Meek was trying to bully him over not posting his album. He says Back to Back” was the moment Drake handled business and won. But he argues that after that victory, Drake started leaning harder into a tougher image and rapping about a life Glasses says wasn’t really his lane. Glasses says the Meek battle gave Drake the feeling of being triumphant and from there, that tougher persona kept growing.

🚹 Akademiks says Drake’s post-battle run is working because he DIDN’T listen to hip-hop media’s advice Ak argues the music on Drake’s recent projects isn’t suddenly “night and day” better he believes what changed most is the narrative around Drake and people becoming more willing to accept the music again. He says if ICEMAN dropped two months after the battle, people would’ve called it trash regardless. “The ones who said ‘take a break,’ he didn’t listen to you. The ones who said he needs self-reflection and needs to grow, he didn’t listen to you neither.” “Drake is having this moment because he ignored the critiques.”

🚹 Shawn Cee says he’s fine with Drake being delusional as long as the music is good and says Habibti and Maid of Honor were mid and he’s not convinced FOMO will suddenly bring back “golden-era Drake” Shawn says Drake’s recent music has him sounding like the victim in situations he helped create, and argues that the bars aren’t enough to completely distract from what he sees as a deeply flawed mindset. “I’m okay with Dog being delusional as long as he makes good music out of it.” He says he doesn’t lose anything by hoping Drake delivers, but adds: “I no longer take Drake seriously.” Via Shawn Cee

🚹 Akademiks says Charlamagne “gaslit” him during their sit down Ak claims Charlamagne made him look irrational by dismissing what he believes Drake has been dealing with behind the scenes, arguing now isn’t the time for Drake to do interviews because every public response gets turned into a new narrative. He also revealed he recently filmed content with Drake that felt “almost like an interview,” but says the two agreed it probably won’t be released right now while ICEMAN continues its rollout.

Charlamagne says Drake needs to stop trying to "circle the block" when it comes to Kendrick Lamar: "Ain't no circling the block. Just go ahead and make your records for the club. The only person that made this situation worse after the fact was you." (via The Brilliant Idiots)

Akademiks openly admitted he controls the rap narrative not Drake 🚹 Ak fired back at critics claiming Drake “doesn’t need him,” Ak says if he flipped on Drake during the Kendrick battle, the fight would’ve been way uglier and that being the biggest media voice backing you matters more than people admit. “Drake doesn’t need me to sell albums
but don’t be stupid enough to think having the biggest media nigga on your side doesn’t help.” And This is why Ak believes he can really step on Lil Baby.

🚹 Akademiks says the problem with some Drake rivals is that Drake himself keeps becoming the selling point of THEIR music Ak says with AZ Chike, the conversation became “Kendrick is dissing everybody,” and now with Pusha T it’s “he’s back dissing Drake.” “I’m not telling y’all y’all can’t diss Drake
Drake be dissing y’all, I get it.” But Ak says Drake’s own albums are never sold on “wait till you hear what he said about Pusha T” or A$AP Rocky. “ if the biggest reason people are checking for your project is another Drake storyline, that says a lot.”

After Justin Hunt said Drake fans see Iceman as his return after time away, Scru Face pushed back: Drake never went anywhere. From the battle with Kendrick right up to now, he's been putting out music consistently, and Scru called the "he disappeared" idea the biggest myth going. He argued this may be the most music Drake has ever dropped in such a short window, then listed his releases from the past two years to prove it. In Scru's words, Drake's biggest fumble is that he's omnipresent. Scru got even harsher on Drake buying Pharrell's artifacts. He said that's exactly the kind of thing that makes him not like Drake. To him, bragging about it is like Spanish conquistadors on a boat showing off what they took from other cultures. "We buy your artifacts" is not a flex, he said, and moves like that make him feel Drake doesn't respect the culture. Justin Hunt added that Drake seems to be leaning into all the criticism he's gotten.
