As a young medical student, he traveled across Latin America on his motorbike and was appalled by the sheer amount of disease, hunger, and poverty across the continent. He began to view Latin America as dominated and exploited by US capitalism, a belief that hardened after the CIA orchestrated the coup against Guatemala’s President Jacobo Arbenz, destroying much of the reforms he had implemented. In Mexico City, he met two brothers who shared his ideas; Fidel and Raul Castro. You are only going to kill a man.” In death, Che Guevara would become the iconic symbol of revolutionary martyrdom; giving up his own life with no fear, for the cause of fighting oppression and liberating others. He then placed the weapon “in the heater” and threw the bullets in the trash. Because of this, he was kicked out of Dwight Rich School of the Arts in Lansing. The incident happened after an unidentified student brought a loaded weapon to the middle school. The mother said “the student pulled out the g*n in a bathroom and gave my son a firearm." Sakir, who knows how to hunt and learned about g*n safety from his godfather, knew the weapon was not allowed in school. "Sakir's natural reaction was there's no way I'm going to hold on to this g*n all day," his mother said. "He proceeded to go to class ... and dismantled it in class. What a tragic case! George lost his life & there was no justice for the victims. George Stinney Jr was falsely convicted at the age of 14. He was accused of killing two girls, Betty (age 11) and Mary (age 7). The bodies were found near the house where George lived with his parents. Before his execution, George spent 81 days in prison before he was ever able to see his parents. He spent this time in solitary confinement, in a jail 80 miles from the city. He was questioned without the presence of his parents or a lawyer. His trial lasted only 2 hours, and the sentence was handed down 10 minutes later. The boy's parents were not allowed in the court room, and was subsequently expelled from that city after the trial. During his trial & until the day of his execution, George always carried a Bible in his hands. On the day of his execution, they used the Bible he was carrying as a booster seat because he was too short for the adult sized electric chair. 70 years after his execution, a judge in South Carolina finally overruled George's conviction. It was determined that the beam used in the murder, which weighed more than 19.07 kilograms, would have been too large for George to lift. There was no way he could have used it to strike the victims. ‘The Green Mile’ by Stephen King was inspired by George's case.
