Cheap owners are ruining baseball

Didn’t realize every team in baseball has a 400 million $ tv contract that they don’t have to submit to revenue sharing oh wait that’s just the dodgers in fact half of the leagues teams are being broadcast by mlb itself because THEY CANT FIND A NETWORK TO BROADCAST THEIR GAMES

It isn’t the spending of money it’s the manipulation of the contracts. Their tax bill should be well over $300M, but are paying way under that amount because of deferrals.

Only 30% of the Dodgers' TV deal is taxable by the MLB. Every other team's TV deal is 100% taxable. They have a huge built in advantage where only 3 billion of their 10 billion dollar TV deal has been deemed taxable for some stupid reason.

Interesting

Dodgers TV deal vs brewers TV deal but yeah man it’s just cheap owners 😭 how dare they not go hundreds of millions into the red to still have less than the dodgers!!

Naive is the word of the day. It’s naive to think that small market teams could spend the same as the Dodgers.

This also has not a lot to do with money… they develop players and draft better than any team in baseball.

Might be the first L I have ever witnessed PMT take in a decade of following.

98% accurate. However, the revenue sharing off TV deals enables the Dodgers to spend more. Numbers don't lie.

Talking out of your ass. They categorically make an unfair amount MORE than any other team due to their TV deal. Other owners should spent more, but only like 3 can keep up with the dodgers spending.

This is so brain dead every team has a billion dollar tv deal ? Can we stop this bullshit

Dodgers sweetheart tv deal that is unprecedented in American sports history has allowed them to do this. Cheap owners are obviously bad for baseball but the dodgers have unique advantages like this built in that make impossible for other clubs to compete rn. This deal expires in 2039 🫠 thanks a lot frank mccourt. Dodgers can continue to miss on key free agents and have it not matter at all. No other teams can afford to just trade their top prospects and have it not matter but the dodgers can freely and know they’d get skubal in free agency anyway. It’s all loser talk but the system is absolutely skewed for them to take advantage of these unprecedented advantages (also like ohtani’s entire deal) baseball fans are so screwed @PFTCommenter @BarstoolBigCat

This is the most reasonable take of the situation. The dodgers are not doing anything any other owner couldn’t do. Yes they are a bigger market and will have that advantage but there is nothing preventing the other owners from trying to do the same and compete. The problem is that they see the dodgers and don’t believe they can compete with them so they don’t want to waste the money.

Dumb podcasts hosts are ruining discourse

Tell me you don’t know about the TV deal without telling me you don’t know about the deal

It’s a two-sided sword The Dodgers absolutely have more resources & have Owners who want to win Reds & Pirates Owners need to be more willing to spend cash Salary cap solves both issues

Doesn’t know a damn thing about baseball economics or finance in general. What a clown.

Stick to football… dumb take not mentioning one of the largest market team is exempt from profit sharing and deffering all these contracts avoiding a big leg up these small market teams have!

Bro looking over to his glazer after every sentence cause he knows what he’s saying is complete bs 😭

Dodgers aren’t paying their competitive balance taxes, small market teams not being paid what they’re due while the dodgers pillage the league is the smaller teams fault? Retard alert.

The Dodgers have a local tv rights deal from a bankruptcy court settlement 15 years ago nets them $130M more annually than any MLB team, and $200M more than small market teams like the Brewers.

The Pirates profit about $30M per year but screw them for not spending 10x more and going into debt because the Dodgers make $500M more than them even after paying an additional $300M in salary. Screw the Pirates for not wanting to spend into bankruptcy.

Take away the Dodgers ridiculous TV deal exemption ($100,000,000+ every season that no other team can even dream of, on top of everything else) and maybe this argument makes a modicum of sense. Until then it's just ignorant

Go look up the bankruptcy ruling that allows the Dodgers to prevent sharing the bulk of their massive TV deal

Do you understand the advantage the Dodgers have in their tv deal that other teams don’t have? This is a trash take.

People who complain about the dodgers spending also sneered and laughed as the padres tried to actually spend like a major team instead of being a AAAA club for the big boys.

Good… then have a floor to go along with the cap

At least be educated enough on the topic to bring up their TV deal that is clearly giving them this advantage to spend.

Wait, so if the Dodgers can spend $300m on payroll and still make a $300m profit, small market teams should spend $300m on payroll and make no or little profit, or even lose money? I'm not sure if they're are enough billionaires out there that would accept that business model.

Asking owners to open up their books is the smartest thing ever, and they should. That simple suggestion might change my mind and stance on this whole situation.

Yeah the dodgers are a way bigger market and have more money to spend but still…..that’s the argument. You can’t say “but still” at the end of that and think you’re point is good
