Chicago has a solution to rambunctious teens terrorizing downtown. CPD and CPS are partnering to address teen takeovers. The plan is to send an e-mail to mom and dad to talk to their kids about creating mayhem downtown. Problem solved, right?

We appreciate Alderwoman Monique Scott's wisdom here. During debate over the snap curfew yesterday, Ms. Scott explained she has forbidden her college-bound daughter from travelling downtown. Why? Well, Ms. Scott is exercising impeccable parental instinct: The 24th Ward alderman understands downtown isn't safe and her daughter would be at risk. Scott would prefer her daughter visit Oakbrook Center rather than downtown. This says a great deal about how Scott views the conditions on Chicago's streets. Ms. Scott is also to be commended for clearly articulating how the "snap curfew" doesn't confer on CPD the authority to randomly administer drubbings on teens. Instead, Ms. Scott recognizes the snap curfew is an instrument CPD can harness to avert teen takeovers, which are known to become violent. Ms. Scott understands CPD with the authority to call a snap curfew to force kids to disperse means fewer or no arrests. Well done, Ms. Scott.

Hopkins says when wilding occurs, Mayor Brandon Johnson's reflexive response is to deflect from teen criminality by reciting a whole slate of city "programs" and the amount of money thrown into each. Quite obviously, those programs aren't working, and money is being wasted. We've reached a point at which a curfew and CPD empowered to arrest violent teens is required.

It's not racist to observe that *every single teenager* at these "teen takeovers" is black. As Governor, I will stop teen takeovers by arresting and charging anyone who participates and fining their mom (not dad, and that's the problem) $5,000. Enough is Enough. This is Florida.

It's not too often we find a reason to praise Matthew J. O'Shea, but today he distinguished himself in Council. Speaking with a passion and urgency in favor of the snap curfew, O'Shea noted when Police Districts are stripped of officers to tend to teen takeovers or protests downtown, residents across the city are deprived of the CPD protection they deserve. O'Shea made an important point about shortages to CPD personnel and expressed his concern with residents' safety. For this, Mr. O'Shea deserves a round of applause.
