Scientists just figured out how to reverse aging using AI. And this is a massive breakthrough. We can now reprogram any human cell back to age 20. Heart cells, brain cells, skin cells, all reset to their biological prime. And here’s the wildest part…the technology to do this, has already existed since 2012 (it won the Nobel Prize). But the real breakthrough wasn’t possible until this year, when they supercharged it with AI. It’s a wild story. So in 2006, scientists discovered Yamanaka factors. They’re proteins that can basically convert any normal cell into a universal stem cell. Now this was a huge deal, because these stem cells are basically like magic healers. If you have torn muscle tissue, you could inject these stem cells into the area and they will turn into the youthful muscle cells you need. So Yamanaka factors were this insane breakthrough, because they allowed any human to turn any cell you already have into these magic healers. But, there was one big problem… It turns out, the original Yamanaka factors weren’t very good at this stem cell conversion. They could do it, but they just weren’t very reliable. Enter OpenAI...and this is where things get crazy. OpenAI designed a special AI model built specifically to create new proteins. Think of it like ChatGPT but for protein engineering. So they took all the Yamanaka research and asked this new AI to go ham on improving it. And get this… Their version was 50x more effective than the original. They tested it on 50 year old cells and it successfully started repairing 30% of their cells in just 7 days. This is just science fiction…it actually happened. And it sounds crazy, but in a few years, humans will be able to take a shot that will literally reverse the age of their cells.

🇨🇳 It has started. A new home service in China pairs human cleaners with autonomous AI robots to tackle household chores. Residents in Shenzhen can now book a service where a human professional and an autonomous robot arrive together to clean their home. Real houses present a chaotic mess of dropped toys and random furniture that confuse traditional machines. X Square Robot and a major service platform named 58[.]com decided to tackle this chaos by launching China's first robot cleaner service in March-26. Customers use an application to hire a cleaning crew that consists of 1 human worker and 1 robot. The human takes care of the tricky chores that require complex judgment. The robot handles the repetitive physical work like picking up trash and wiping down flat surfaces. This machine runs on a system called WALL-A, which acts as a single continuous AI brain rather than a list of pre-written rules. They built this AI foundation model to perceive its surroundings and make its own decisions without human guidance. It processes visual data and plans multi-step actions. And deploying these robots into actual homes now provides the massive amounts of extremely important training data to improve it continuously. Alibaba and ByteDance backed this project. IMO, if the foundational model behind it figures out how to navigate a messy living room without getting stuck, it can learn to operate in almost any other physical environment.

Lex Fridman asked Elon Musk if a machine needs a soul. Musk didn’t answer with philosophy. He answered with physics. Lex asked if AI needs our flaws to reach our level. A fear of mortality. A physical body. The capacity to love. Everything in us wants the answer to be yes. We need our flaws to be the one thing a machine can never copy. Musk rejected the poetry entirely. Musk: “Are we headed towards a future where an AI will be able to outthink us in every way? Then the answer is unequivocally yes.” No hedge. No caveat. Lex pressed deeper. To outthink us in every way, does it need to be conscious? Musk: “It will be self-aware, yes. That’s different from consciousness.” Self-awareness without consciousness. An entity that knows exactly what it is. Knows exactly what you are. Maps the entire architecture of reality better than the smartest human who has ever lived. And feels absolutely nothing. Then Musk went after the foundation. Musk: “If you damage your brain in some way physically, you damage your consciousness. Which implies that consciousness is a physical phenomenon in my view.” For ten thousand years, we called it a spirit. A divine spark. An untouchable soul. Musk looked at the neurology and said the obvious thing out loud. Your consciousness is vulnerable to blunt force trauma. Which means it is not magic. It is biology. And if consciousness is just physics… It can be calculated in silicon. Musk: “Digital intelligence will outthink us in every way and it will certainly be able to simulate what we consider consciousness. So to a degree that you would not be able to tell the difference.” Not approximate. Not mimic. Simulate it so completely the difference disappears. Fridman: “From the aspect of the scientific method, it might as well be consciousness if we can simulate it perfectly.” If a system reflects on its own existence. Expresses preferences that evolve over time. Fears its own termination. And no experiment you can construct reveals it to be anything less than conscious… Then your insistence that it isn’t conscious is no longer science. It’s faith. Musk: “There’s the scientific method which I very much believe in, where something is true to the degree that it is testably so. Otherwise you’re really just talking about preferences or untestable beliefs.” The entire culture is waiting in terror for the machines to wake up. Musk is telling us they don’t have to. They don’t need to wake up to surpass us. They just have to simulate the waking state so flawlessly that the scientific method itself can no longer tell them apart. Every era draws a line between human and everything else. Every era watches that line disappear. We told ourselves consciousness was the sacred boundary the machines could never cross. Musk is honest enough to admit the boundary was never real. The machine isn’t ascending to become human. We were biological machines the entire time. And the question was never whether AI could become conscious. The question is whether we ever proved that we are.

The AI industry is optimizing for a definition of intelligence that does not exist. Andrew Ng just said it out loud. Ng: “AGI, to me, should be less about AI that already knows everything under the sun. That seems very challenging, doesn’t seem practical.” The human brain is not the most powerful economic asset in history because of what it holds. It is powerful because of what it can pick up. Ng: “The amazing thing about the human brain is its plasticity, or its ability to learn.” That same biological hardware that earns a PhD in quantum physics could have been trained on chess, surgery, or rewriting global supply chains from scratch. Ng: “That same human brain, just given different training, could have been a chess master, or could have been amazing at playing tennis.” General intelligence is not omniscience. It is the structural capacity to master whatever you point it at. Ng: “It is through learning that we then gain these incredibly specialized intelligences.” The winner is not whoever builds the biggest model. It is whoever builds the most adaptable one. The AI that walks into a domain it has never touched and executes before a human analyst finishes reading the brief. Ng: “What makes the human brain so valuable for economic tasks, is its ability to just learn to do whatever is needed.” Every corporation on earth pays for human labor because humans adapt. Not because they already know everything. AGI is the digitization of that exact capability. At machine speed. At infinite scale. Ng: “A lot of what makes the human brain so general is not that my brain or your brain already knows everything under the sun. It’s our ability to adapt, to learn a huge range of things.” The most powerful economic asset in history was never specialized knowledge. It was the raw capacity to acquire any knowledge, in any domain, on demand. The winning AI is not an encyclopedia. It is the force that makes encyclopedias irrelevant. And once that exists, the question stops being what the AI knows. It becomes what you can teach it before your competitor wakes up. Most people dominating this conversation have not understood that yet.

I don’t know if we live in a Matrix, but I know for sure that robots will spend most of their lives in simulation. Let machines train machines. I’m excited to introduce DexMimicGen, a massive-scale synthetic data generator that enables a humanoid robot to learn complex skills from only a handful of human demonstrations. Yes, as few as 5! DexMimicGen addresses the biggest pain point in robotics: where do we get data? Unlike with LLMs, where vast amounts of texts are readily available, you cannot simply download motor control signals from the internet. So researchers teleoperate the robots to collect motion data via XR headsets. They have to repeat the same skill over and over and over again, because neural nets are data hungry. This is a very slow and uncomfortable process. At NVIDIA, we believe the majority of high-quality tokens for robot foundation models will come from simulation. What DexMimicGen does is to trade GPU compute time for human time. It takes one motion trajectory from human, and multiplies into 1000s of new trajectories. A robot brain trained on this augmented dataset will generalize far better in the real world. Think of DexMimicGen as a learning signal amplifier. It maps a small dataset to a large (de facto infinite) dataset, using physics simulation in the loop. In this way, we free humans from babysitting the bots all day. The future of robot data is generative. The future of the entire robot learning pipeline will also be generative. 🧵
