The most brutal part is not that China is using AI to sort garbage. It is that China has pushed waste management so far that the old problem has reversed. China used to worry about having too much garbage to process. Now some waste-to-energy plants are facing the opposite problem: not enough garbage. Previously sealed landfills may even have to be reopened, not because China failed, but because waste has become fuel, feedstock, data, and part of an industrial recycling loop. This is what China does best. It takes the ugliest, dirtiest, most ignored corner of urban life — garbage — and turns it into engineering, automation, energy recovery, environmental governance, and industrial optimization. Even trash gets absorbed into the machine. In many countries, garbage is where governance collapses. In China, even garbage becomes a system.

Mayor Mamdani announces that NYC will finally be getting trash containerization. Great! When does he say it will be complete? 2031!!! 😂 That’s ridiculous. The trash turmoil in NYC could get resolved by this summer if Mamdani didn’t waste resources on illegals and woke projects. He’s gaslighting once again by making it seem like these baby steps he’s taking are real progress. They’re not. Real progress would be helping to deport all illegals, outlawing all homelessness, and getting trash containers on every block in NYC. This is just like with his childcare-for-all promise. He only got it for 2,000 2-year-olds. And of course, illegals are eligible. As for garbage, NYC will continue to see and smell it on the sidewalks in most places for years to come because Mamdani’s priorities are garbage!

After two straight weeks of city garbage workers refusing to haul her trash claiming the bags were too heavy she stepped up and tossed them into the truck herself. All while her baby was left crying on the lawn. The city ended up disciplining the two workers over it.

Last week, Cape Coral Florida floated the idea of using AI powered cameras on garbage trucks to fine residents who put trash out by the road in a manner the State doesn't approve of. This week, Sacramento California announced they'll be sending leftist Karens around to inspect residents' trash to make sure they are in compliance with California's Statist mandates of how trash is placed in a bin. They say there's no penalty for putting your trash out in a manner the State doesn't approve of for now but anyone with a history book knows how this ends. If we allow it, the Florida technology will be paired with the California policy and fines will be introduced. Once fines are introduced then armed agents of the State with a monopoly on "legal" violence will be used against all of us for this dystopian plan for how to put trash in a bin. ALERT: Heirlooms were found in a mountain of trash after a woman accidentally threw them out. A woman immediately noticed that the pair of priceless rings she couldn't find had ended up in her apartment complex's dumpster in Brooklyn. She met sanitation workers when they came to pick up the trash cans and explained her situation. City sanitation workers then coordinated the truck to dump the trash at a designated area and search for the lost rings. “Every couple of months, a New Yorker will throw away something that is important to them… we set up what is called a lost valuables search, where in most cases, the resident and one very close friend get 90 minutes to go through the trash together.” Sanitation workers sifted through the trash and located both rings, which were returned to their owner.

This man has set up a dog baggie station for people to clean up after their pets go potty in front of his home, there is even a trash can to put it in. One of his neighbors doesn't want to pick up after their pet and just leaves it. 🐕💩 Frustrated with the neighbor, the man decides to take the waste and put it on the neighbors porch for them to throw away. Would you had just cleaned it up and went on about your business or done the same?

Status update: having coffee on top of the cooling tower of a mega waste incineration plant in Chongqing. Literally. I'm at the Chongqing Sanfeng Yulin waste-to-energy incineration plant, one of the largest in China. When traveling abroad, some people like to visit museums or amusement parks, I'm more into garbage treatment facilities 😊 That's actually a pretty cool thing in China: you can visit many industrial facilities, they often have a small museum attached that tells you about the history of the place, and how it works. This particular facility is pretty impressive: it treats 3,000 tons of waste daily, which is the amount of the amount of waste produced by 3 million people. With this waste, it produces enough energy for 200,000 households. When you visit you can see the actual garbage dump pit, which looks insane, as well as the central control room (both on video).

Today, in Maputo and Matola, residents were encouraged by local authorities to clean up the streets. Everything seemed normal until some residents decided to protest by taking all the garbage to EDM (Electricity of Mozambique company). They justify this action by stating that they pay taxes for trash collection when they buy electricity, yet the trash is never collected. As they deposit the trash, they chant "Não Godolemos" commonly used among protesters to boost morale.

Suppose an AI model fully automates a $200k job. Its economic value - measured in contribution to GDP - will be both far more and far less than $200k. There are two ways of thinking about the model's economic value: (1) It'll be far more than $200k. After all, the human worker's labor was worth $200k; AI workers will have a bunch of advantages over humans, like not needing to sleep and being able to run in parallel, so their labor will be worth even more. (2) It'll be far less than $200k. Competition between labs might drive the price of AI down until it's basically equal to the cost of the GPUs and energy. And this is obviously way lower than the human worker's contribution to GDP. The important idea is that both are right. The marginal contribution to GDP of running an additional instance of this model will probably be relatively low. But we'll end up running way more copies of it, so the model's total contribution to GDP will be way higher than the human workers it replaced.

Let me show you the harsh reality of #SwachhBharat. 👉The Incident; I’ve witnessed this many times before, but today I was able to captured it on video. The train attendant, like many others, removed the trash bag from the bin, inserted a new one, and casually tossed the old bag—filled with waste—out of the moving train. The compartment is clean, so his job is done, right? But who cares about the thousands of kilometers of tracks now littered with our trash? 👉The Reason We all want to keep our compartments, homes, neighborhoods, and cities clean. But what happens to the trash once it leaves our sight? Few of us think about where it ends up. Much of what we dispose of through the ‘gadi wala’ gets dumped in the outskirts of cities, piles up in landfills, or pollutes our rivers. The real issue runs deeper than just littering. We ignore the critical infrastructure needed to handle waste. We dont even know about waster management, recycling plants, sewage treatment centers, and proper waste segregation. Govt also dont care because these solutions don’t attract votes or immediate attention. 👉A small solution Lets take a small action else this post will be buried too in the countless trash of tweets. I am not calling for any punitive measures against the cleaner or vendor. Instead, I ask the railway authorities to implement proper guidelines for waste disposal on trains. During long journeys, bins need to be emptied multiple times. - What is the attendant supposed to do with the trash? - Where should it be stored? - Is there a protocol in place? We need answers, Ministry of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw. Let’s make sure this isn’t just another post but a starting point for real change. Share this post to spread awareness and demand the right solutions. Together, we can keep India truly clean.

OSUN: I’m purposely making this a video just so the necessary people can see it. The committee in charge of Osun Osogbo Festival have always made the same mistake of leaving trash unattended to. I can bring 30images out from the last 5years and you’d see the same problem, an unhygienic environment and improper waste disposal because there are no visible trash bin anywhere within or people picking up trash on the big day. Isese community, especially with respect to those who make offerings by the riverbank on the big day, you need to do better! During off seasons, tourists are the ones who pay to enter the venue but none of the Isese community, Ìsàlè Osun or residents of Osogbo pay the compulsory entrance fee. Osogbo, you are the first to pick up your pieces before others do. While I do not discredit the efforts made by the people cleaning this place, this video was 24hrs after the Osun Osogbo festival around 7pm and it is still visibly dirty. You all really need to start making provisions for proper waste disposal especially with your brand sponsors and how there should be an arrangement to that. It shouldn’t be about the monies in the banks alone. To the elders in the community, please, teach your people how to be clean as they learn to keep on the legacy. Nobody wants to come to a community that doesn’t have basic proper hygiene. You can all do better. We can all trash waste properly. #Konibaje

We recently moved here, one hour away from Warsaw. And we immediately fell in love with this magical forest… Until we saw that it is literally drowning in trash. Bottles, wires, plastic bags, construction waste — anything you can imagine, except respect for nature. Every day people walk their dogs here… And every day they just walk past it. Even in Ukraine, forests don’t look this bad 🙈 And here — there’s a pile of garbage at every step. So we just started cleaning it ourselves. Every day. New trash appears? Well, yes. We wrote to the gmina — but politicians don’t care about ecology, they deal with everything except real important things. So we bought the stakes with our own money, made the signs — and we’ll put up more. We’re not waiting for someone to come and do it for us. The forest is everyone’s responsibility. If you see trash — pick it up. It takes five seconds. And if the signs don’t help… Then the next one will say: “Whoever enters the forest and throws trash — won’t leave the forest again.”

Calgary, Alberta: Canadian man, who cleans up his community in his spare time, went through this trash trying in vain to find any identifying documents. He ended up bagging it all up and removing the trash from the area. The tan coloured trays are known as “Thali trays” and are used to serve South Asian cuisine. He also noted a powerful odour of curry. Even when documents are not found, we still have other clues as to who is garbaging in Canada.
