Chiwetel Ejiofor is impossibly great in 12 Years a Slave and this performance should be mentioned as one of the century’s best. This is an extremely painful film to watch & I’ve never actually rewatched this a second time. But Ejiofor could not be better. He deserved the Oscar.

Spike Lee’s Inside Man should be mentioned as one of Spike’s best films ever. Denzel is incredibly magnetic in this film- I think it’s one of his best post-Training Day performances. The entire cast is also excellent, from Clive Owen to Chiwetel Ejiofor to Willem Dafoe & Jodie Foster. That’s all without mentioning the late Christopher Plummer, who himself is exceptional in this film. I truly love this movie.

Mississippi Burning is a great, great way to spend a Sunday morning if you need a film to watch. This is available on demand & it features Gene Hackman & Frances McDormand in Oscar-nominated performances, as well as a great performance from Willem Dafoe. Hell, this film earned a boat-load of Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. It’s excellent and worth your time.

On the 7th anniversary of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I still think this is Leonardo DiCaprio’s best performance. He lost the Oscar to Joaquin Phoenix for Joker & it’s a decision that’s aged horribly by the Academy. DiCaprio’s comedic range in this film changed my expectations of Leo as an actor. He reached another level with this film, which also happens to be Tarantino’s best.
