Chris Pollard has been tossed after umpires retroactively called a dropped pop up an infield fly. Brutal. Pollard is on the rules committee... I think he knows the rules.

How do you retroactively call infield fly. The whole thing hinges on ordinary effort...

Ump was barking at Simmons and Pollard wasn’t having it

“Inf fly if fair.”

Wild call. Isn’t the ump supposed to call infield fly while the ball is still in the air? Home plate ump doesn’t signal anything until the ball hits the ground.

He got tossed because the ump told 3rd base coach to shut up, pollard did not like that and said the magic word.

Terrible call by the umps. That was in no way a routine play and inf fly should have never been called. Even after the play they should have swallowed their pride and taken the much deserved ass chewing instead of throwing out the coach who was correct.

It’s absolutely an infield fly though. He can know the rules or not , by the letter of the law it’s the definition of an infield fly. A pop up in front of home is normal effort with at least first and second is an infield fly regardless if the ball drops or not. They got it right. Not sure why this is a thing. Pollard may know the rules but he was wrong here if he thought it wasn’t an infield fly.

Watch the Pitcher, 3B and 1B from the very beginning. I think tbe catcher just got a bad read and made a routine pop up look difficult. Catcher is running all over, other three fielders are staring at the ball exactly where it came down the entire time.

I didn't see any umpire call "Infield Fly". The signal is to point with the right hand to the sky. If one umpire calls it, all the umpires should echo the call...since we could see at least two umpires in the video not signal it, I have to think nobody called it.

Fwiw umpires calling IFF or not doesn’t put it into play. The situation it self dictates the ruling.

This is a horrible call. Not even close to an Infield Fly rule. Ball was foul for most of its flight, and the catcher was never comfortable under it

First one is NCAA Rulebook- Does not mention anything about retroactively calling it Second and Third are MLB and MiLB rulings and they seem to contradict each other… Not sure- this is a bit confusing but figured I’d pass along what research I had done

“Infield fly if fair”

Seems like he got upset about something that was said to his third base coach.

I loved to see his fire tonight.

I think the issue would be not calling infield fly until after the play. It needs to be called at the time of the fly, you can’t change it afterward. The umpires ruling at the time is what guides the base runners decisions.

The ejection had nothing to do with the call btw

It was an infield fly for sure. It should have been called right away but in the end it was still the right call.

He’s also a treasonous snake who cares more about his next job than his current team. He can fuck all the way off.

Umpires are taught when they call the infield fly rule that the full wording is if fair after the reasonable chance to get to the ball. Both of those are evident in spite of how poorly the defense played this ball. 100% still an infield fly rule.

Infield fly is not required to be called by an umpire. I see a pitcher that could have easily caught the ball, but was called off (which is normal). Umps corrected the call.

i mean genuinely asking should that not have been infield fly?

Except it was the correct call. The incorrect piece is sending the guys back. They can advance if they choose to.

@JomboyMedia @Jomboy_ Could you clarify the rules for me… can an Ump retroactively call infield fly and reverse the call… is it different for ncaa vs mlb, ive looked it up, and its telling me different things

at least it wasn't in left field

That’s crazy! Who on earth was ever “camped” underneath that in order for them to call infield fly? It’s not an automatic call!!

Home plate umpire clearly had an issue with the third base coach, got his feathers ruffled and threw Pollard under the bus. Typical, mate.

Not ideal but within their purview to get the call right.

Aaaaaaand if his runners (and inning) would have been retired on a double play he would have been livid on why it wasn’t called. It’s the right call, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED IMMEDIATELY, infield fly if fair…

Another reason to leave the acc. Absolutely pathetic. And if a call goes our way once we have to apologize.

Tu punto necesita datos verificables. ¿Cuál es la evidencia concreta?

Run that Va coach for sure.

Yea it’s a stupid rule

What is the infield fly rule?
