Christopher Nolan reveals the first time an actor said no to him was David Bowie, and he had to personally beg him to change his mind. Jimmy Fallon: Have you ever gotten a “no”? Christopher Nolan: Have I ever gotten a “no”? Yeah, I have. Jimmy Fallon: Besides me when I said I didn’t want to do Batman. Christopher Nolan: The only “no” I’ll admit to is David Bowie for The Prestige. He was my great idol, and I thought he’d be perfect to play Nikola Tesla. Christopher Nolan: We sent him the script and everything, and he said no. It was the first time I ever went back and said, “Can I just go and meet him? Can I try and convince him in the room?” Christopher Nolan: They agreed, so I quickly wrote him a better speech for his first appearance, showed up with a new script, and basically begged. What’s it like having to go to sleep at night knowing you were so fucking wrong? Face the music. Look in the mirror. Christopher Nolan just brushed you off his shoulder.

Christopher Nolan is the only thing on my mind. I’m seeing The Odyssey in 9 days and it feels an eternity. I can’t wait any longer & every review makes me more impatient. I still can’t believe some of you on this app doubted Nolan even for a second. This man cares too much about Cinema to let us down. I can’t wait.

Christopher Nolan says The Odyssey is a promise he made to himself at 16, watching a volcano documentary in a dome-screen IMAX in Chicago. Christopher Nolan: "Going to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago when I was 16 years old, seeing a documentary about volcanoes in the OmniMax format, and thinking... why on earth isn't Hollywood using this format? I always wanted to be a director. If I ever got the chance, could I shoot a film in this way?" Christopher Nolan: "I called my friends at IMAX and said, look... if ever we're going to make a film entirely on IMAX, this is The Odyssey. This is the one. Can you find a way to alleviate the limiting factor? The cameras are extremely loud." Christopher Nolan: "What they did is they came up with a way of blimping the camera... a high-tech box that silences it. The thing weighed about 300 pounds. But it let us, for the first time ever, get the quiet scenes, the dramatic scenes, and therefore do the whole film."

Abel Ferrara and screenwriter Nicholas St. John wrote King of New York specifically with Christopher Walken in mind - despite never having met him. Getting Walken was an absolute must. Abel explains what it was like meeting with him for the first time to discuss doing the role: "Walken showed up as advertised, tall, elegant, mysterious, and like every time I would ever meet with him he just appeared, alone, carrying a black bag like a doctor.
