It’s been an eventful two days on my quiet little street in Grand Rapids. Thanks to the windstorm last night, we suffered a power surge down our street, frying people’s furnaces and multiple other appliances. This evening, my sweet neighbor’s house caught fire, believed to be a result of the surge impact from last night. A lot of people in need of encouragement and prayer, especially so close to Christmas.

During my visit to Tanzania a few weeks ago, many tour operators were fascinated by the fact that in Uganda in the video Queen Elizabeth National park , someone can ride a motorcycle on certain tracks within our national parks. However, they also pointed out that it’s risky, especially when it comes to safety and the potential impact on wildlife and the environment. It sparked interesting discussions about the different approaches to tourism and conservation in our two countries. I met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Barham Salih. We discussed the consequences of Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukraine's energy system and the assistance our people need. There must be more pressure to stop these attacks and more support for our people – especially those who are currently in Ukraine or planning to return. I thank Barham Salih for his first visit to Ukraine since taking office and for all the support that the UN Refugee Agency provides to our people who are forced to live under Russian attacks.

These are the faces of successful conservation work. African wild dogs are critically endangered — fewer than 7,000 remain across all of Africa — and as part of our field work, we closely monitor local populations. Our pilot and SWT/KWS Anti-Poaching Team spotted this pack during an aerial patrol last week. The team landed and went to have a closer look — as you can see, the dogs were keen to investigate us, too! Besides a few pesky burrs, this pack is thriving and in peak health.
