Totally agree with this. As a principal I think their pay is a disgrace and we also as a school could not operate without the contribution they bring to the school and the relationships they build with the pupils in their care.

Well said ! It’s an outrage that they are often being paid less than student / weekend jobs … and time to sort out the nonsense of not being paid over the summer !

Any supermarket or garage is now paying a higher rate of pay than classroom assistants get for being college trained, maintaining CPD and in many cases being qualified in a phonics programme. Increasing numbers of SEN pupils along with a shortage of CAs. The perfect storm.
