Today, we’re honoring the life of Michael Brown, Jr. on his 28th birthday. His mother reflected on him as being courageous, outgoing, loved people, animals, and being soft spoken. In his honor, we’re still fighting for justice. Black boys should be able to grow into Black men in peace. Let us take a moment to reflect as we send his family love and support. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. Happy Birthday and Rest in Power, King. ✊🏽

Today, I remember Dr. Herbert Wigwe, C.F.R, a mentor, a builder, and one of the people who changed the course of my life. Long before many believed in the possibilities we now see across African fintech, Herbert challenged me to think bigger. He pushed me to be bold, stay resilient, and keep going even when the path was uncertain. I still hear his words: “Only the test of fire makes very fine steel.” He invested in people, in ideas, and in the future of Africa. His guidance and belief played a meaningful role in shaping my journey and the early steps that eventually led to building Flutterwave. At critical moments, his encouragement reminded me to hang in there and trust the process. His passing left a deep personal and professional void, and his legacy lives on in the lives he impacted, the institutions he built, and the dreams he helped ignite. I remain grateful for his mentorship, his wisdom, and his belief in what was possible. We will continue to build, lead, and dream bigger, carrying forward the values he lived by.

Albert Maguire received the 2026 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for developing a therapy for inherited retinal degeneration that became the first FDA-approved gene therapy for a genetic disease. Maguire recalled that the project began nearly four decades ago during conversations with his now wife (and co-awardee) Jean Bennett. What started as a simple idea eventually led into a breakthrough treatment that has transformed the lives of patients around the world.
