Let me preface this by saying that generic ballot polling is a terrible way to evaluate a midterm election. Generic ballots are national polls and we don't know where the samples are being taken. Midterm elections are local not national. FiveThirtyEight's tally of midterms since 1994 shows an average absolute ERROR OF THREE POINTS favoring Democrats between the final generic ballot margin and the actual House popular vote! HERE'S THE RECEIPTS: Economist/YouGov has the GOP down four (42-46), and Reuters/Ipsos has them down only two (38-40). Both moved in the GOP's direction from their previous editions. Momentum is actually more important than the raw numbers. FOLLOW THE MONEY: The money gap is enormous. The RNC is sitting on $129 million against the DNC's $16.3 million, and the NRCC holds a $14 million edge over the DCCC at $93 million to $79 million. THAT DALLAS CONVENTION: Trump is planning for this, not coasting. He has announced an unprecedented midterm political convention, which tells you the White House understands turnout is the whole ballgame. In conclusion, we have all the momentum!
