Codex is hacking a new e-ink device to try to improve the very slow refresh rate. Fully automated loop, it looks through the webcam to check its work.

A higher refresh rate just destroys the display faster

We will look into this... That said its unusablynalow without this

This has to be rage bait

please explain😅im new to this

@BiggSmithzzz E-Ink displays have a low refresh rate because it's a limitation of how the technology works. Increasing the refresh rate means you are likely to fuck up the screen

the device is literally useless as it is - the refresh rate is prohibitively long. If I get a couple months use out of it and destroy it that would be better than not. Also I did some research and it's not completely clear how damaging this sort of thing is to the device? Fast refresh doesn't mean more refreshes per day. There's a good question about cumulative DC bias which suggests constructive bespoke waveforms has the potential to wear the device out faster though.

@ultmtc @BiggSmithzzz Why did you get one if for your use case is useless? I believe your use case for the device is wrong. Colored e-ink are slow and it’s gonna take time before we managed to solve this

@ultmtc @BiggSmithzzz i bought it because I incorrectly thought it would be cool

That what happens when software people do hardware, everybody.

explain!😅

Set the webcam parameters to manual. Take photos with the webcam of the device and use it to compare across runs, so you can see if you're getting the same quality or contrast after you improve the speed.

its hardware limitation lol.. it is like put 10ghz on 5ghz cpu.

I doubt code is the only limit here, eink hardware is inherently slow to refresh

Grok with Claude wrote esp-hal compatible driver for LCD not supported earlier by Rust 😁

So sick. I worry about overcompensation if it's comparing the visual impression to an iPhone/ Android ui

I want to learn to get to this point in working with ai. I make great apps and tools I use daily. CRM systems and functional ar capable rendering softwares. However I so want to get into hardware work. Home camera systems, controls, etc. any tips?

if you have codex subscription you can get unlimited (I think) free messages in the ChatGPT website, so you can do a LOT of preparation and discussion and planning in there before you start to use codex in the command line - you can hit the ground running, just say what you want to build and start doing it!

POV e-ink

Next time bud be like…”codex download me more RAM!” 😭

Same, any advice? I have an xteink x4 pro and what to make the display buttery smooth

Unsung hero: Usb debugging / data enabled in that tablet.

it's beautiful.

Holy

heck yeah!

see what you canp ull off with this

is this not hardware limitations?

cool

Is it taking frame rates of it's own video input into account??

no, it takes a photo before and after

This tracks with what I've been observing too.

Did we win?

没用,寿命会大幅下降

lmfao - you can just read the frame rate through usb debugging why would you do this lmfao

Putting Hardware in your loop prompt :)

What a good boy

So you capped codex to optimize for max 30 fps?(bottleneck webcam)
