Yesterday evening, Major General Christian Freuding *¹ who is currently in Kyiv, gave his assessment of the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region and the use of standoff weapons on Russian territory on ZDF heute journal. For the first time in history, Ukraine has begun building a joint plant with Denmark, on Danish territory, and it will produce components for our missiles and drones, weapons that are already proving highly effective. During this war, Ukraine has already reached the level where nearly 60 percent of the weapons in the hands of our warriors are Ukrainian-made – and they are strong weapons, many of them cutting-edge. Of course, there are goals we must still achieve, in particular the production in Ukraine and together with Ukraine different types of air defense systems. We must get there. Ukraine has already proven that in weapons production we are among the best in the world. I thank everyone who is developing Ukraine’s defense sector, designing new models of Ukrainian weapons, and driving the technological advancement of our country.

I have been constantly saying this for a long time: It is very important that Ukraine produces its own weapons and has the necessary funding to do so. According to the Economist, today, the Ukrainian arms industry has orders worth $7 billion, which is only about a third of its potential capacity. According to my data, the capacity could be even higher. Arms companies from the United States and some European countries have already gotten involved in this process; others should do so as well. Production of Ukrainian weapons is faster and cheaper than Western weapons. Domestic weapons can be more innovative. They are immediately tested in real conditions. Production cycles are much shorter. For example, there are approximately 250 drone manufacturing companies in Ukraine, some of which are world leaders. The whole world has seen recent very effective strikes on large arms depots in Russia.
