Having trouble squaring the club face? Check your lead wrist during the downswing! Too much extension (cupping) will lead to the club face being wide open, which will create weak slices Aim to have the lead wrist in a flat position when the club is parallel during the downswing. This will help close the face and help deliver a stronger clubface and improve impact 👊🏼

Squaring The Face Controlling your golf ball is all about managing the club face. Understanding the how the arms will influence the club face is key. The lead arm will have some internal rotation in the backswing, therefore we will need to add external rotation to this arm through the release. If we fail to do this, we will leave the face open and often bring in more chicken wing/scoop patterns through contact. Learning to externally rotate the lead arm will help you keep a flat lead wrist and deliver a stronger loft. If you’re a player who tends to slice or fade the ball, this concept will help you to feel what you need to square it up. I just posted the full version of this lesson on the ProShopApp!!! Do you hit your ball to the right all the time? It could be because you have excessive cupping in the lead wrist which causes the face to open To fix this, put a tee in your glove and avoid stabbing yourself with it. Flex the lead wrist as a feel & that will help flatten out the lead wrist & square the face Try this out next time you are at the range 👊

You can do the drill with the club right in front of your body to allow you to see what is happening. You see the pros shallow the club into the perfect slot, and hit one great shot after another. So why is it that most players can't seem to stop coming over the top? They'll steepen the club to start the downswing, and lose tons of distance and consistency. Most of this comes from confusion of exactly what you should be doing with your hands and arms to shallow the club. It can be hard to know for sure, since you can't even see the club at the top of the swing. I am going to solve that problem with a very simple set of drills.

SHANK FIX Now there are several causes of shanks, but one thing for certain, shanks are when the hossel of the club is delivered into the ball instead of the sweet spot. When on the course, if you suffer from one of these unfortunate shots, there are some “on the fly” strategies you can bring in, to prevent them from happening again. This video dives into a very easy practice swing that will give you the exact feel you need to have to avoid the heel of the club. In addition to this swing feel, have the thought to strike it on the toe of the club is also advisable. This will get you back to the sweet spot, where you want to be!
