The price of a standard serving of fish and chips for a family of 4 is now around £60. 😲 Fish and chips used to be a cheap iconic meal wrapped in paper, it's no longer affordable for most, it's become a high-end luxury, hard working Brits can no longer afford. 😢 Here in Great Grimsby we pride ourselves on having the cheapest and best chippy in the UK. Our own people have been abandoned like trash, politicians pretend they don’t exist. They’ll find billions for illegals the minute they step foot here, but when it’s our own on the streets, suddenly the money “isn’t there” and the shelters “don’t have room. And when those lakes are up in the mountains, it can take a plane or a helicopter to get the live fish to the water. But in many cases, these very lakes never had any fish in them to begin with. And adding these non-native fish can have ripple effects on the entire ecosystem.

Hills Fish & Chips in Middleton has been at the heart of the community for more than 20 years, serving up fresh fish, hot chips and a few special extras you won’t find anywhere else. Like their viral deep fried chip barm. It’s exactly as it sounds; an oven-bottom muffin stuffed with chips, curry or gravy, mushy peas, then battered, fried and served up with an extra pot of gravy or curry for dipping. It’s a revelation. Owners Gwen and John Hill put everything into this place. Knowing things can get tight, they offer a £5 lunch deal every day, and during the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, gave out over 800 free meals to those who needed a bit of help. Legends ❤️
