Anthony Kim is in the middle of an incredible comeback season. Having been relegated from LIV Golf last year, he earned his way back via the Promotions Event and then won on the league almost immediately in Adelaide. He’s not done there though, AK is now targeting a return to the Masters in 2027. Ahead of LIV Golf Andalucia, AK spoke to Flushing It Golf about how his season is going so far: “1% better is something that I'm keeping with me every day. “To get a win early in the season, especially in Australia, was amazing, and getting that moment with my family was amazing. But I've had a couple weeks where my focus wasn't as good as I wanted, so theres a lot to improve on still. I think that I'm progressing in the right way, and if I just keep working, I'll keep getting better.” AK’s success has been a simple combination of hard work and focusing on the fundamentals to utilise the incredible natural talent he’s had throughout his career. He spoke about the importance of getting the basics right: “I was just explaining to my friend over there, no matter how well you're playing, you always have to go back to the fundamentals. Whether it's alignment, posture, grip, all the small things to keep playing good golf. I think no matter how far along I get, whether I win a bunch more times, no matter what the result, I still have to focus on that first. And then everything else will take care of itself.” AK’s concentrating right now on solely playing LIV Golf events. But once the league season is over, he plans to play on The International Series on the Asian Tour, with a specific target of the Hong Kong Open, where there is a Masters spot on the line. He spoke about the target of returning to Augusta: “Yeah, the target is to give myself an opportunity, not only to play a major, but to win a major. I know that sounds crazy, but it also sounded crazy for me to be contending to win a golf tournament, let alone to actually win. “So, I'm excited for the opportunity that I have in front of me, and I think I'm gonna be able to keep getting better as long as I keep working.” AK still has a great chance to qualify for The Open this week at Valderrama for the highest ranked player on the LIV Golf Standings who isn’t already exempt. LIV Golf have sold nearly 100,000 tickets for their first ever event in South Africa, putting it on track to comfortably be the best attended golf event ever held in the country. Charl Schwartzel spoke about the growth of LIV Golf since their inaugural event in 2022: “Yeah, I mean, that first event in June in 2022, there was a lot of turmoil in our sport, a lot of uncertainty. Anthony Kim talks about how it feels being on a team for the first time on the LIV Golf League: “I'm just one day in, but obviously I wouldn't have accepted to be on the team if I didn't like all three of the guys. I've gotten to play with Thomas now quite a bit, and just being around guys that I want to hang out with off the golf course is the reason I chose to be on a team because obviously I had an option to stay wild card. “But honored to be a part of the team, and I think as I get better, the team will have more chances to win.” He then spoke about his expectations and goals for the season: “I'm delusional enough that my expectations were the same today as they were two years ago. Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the BMW Championship his thoughts on the new changes coming on the PGA Tour and whether he’d like to see any of the LIV players back. On the incoming changes, he said: “Getting the best players competing against each other more often is what we want as players. I assume, you guys in the media, that’s what you’d want to see. I assume that’s what the fans want as well and I think that’s the direction that we’re heading. “Making things a bit simpler in terms of who’s going to be at what tournament at what time. Golf has always been a difficult game to rank when you’re not playing head to head, and so getting the best players playing head to head more often than not in a proper tournament is, I think, the best way to do things.” He then was asked whether he’d like to see the PGA Tour offering LIV Golf players the same opportunity to return that was given to Brooks Koepka earlier this year: “Yeah, I think, when we talk about the best players, LIV has a few players that are really good. I think, the depth that we have on our tour is unmatched, but when you look at higher levels of LIV Golf there are definitely players that would provide a value to the tour and guys that I love competing against as well. “So I think going forwards there obviously has to be some kind of penalties. What they are, I’ll let Rolapp and all those guys figure it out. We have great leadership within the tour now. “But I think having those guys coming back and competing, whatever happens with LIV, whether those guys want to leave, you’ve got to ask them. How is it possible that this swing can shoot around even par on a golf course I've never played or even seen before? Here's just a few god awful looking swings of mine due to the fact my back was in pain every shot... (lower back seized up) You know what I learned from playing golf crippled... I learned that you don't actually need to do much to play good golf & hit the golf ball where you want I was swinging the club no faster than 95mph (If I was lucky), I did however hit it pretty damn straight most of the time, got up & down a lot, & holed a few putts I wasn't trying to stop early extension. I wasn't trying to "drop it in the slot". I wasn't trying to "get open at impact (I couldn't). All I tried to do was swing my arms & control where the face was at impact I played better golf than 99% of golfers on the planet & I had no speed + a crippled lower back I think we need to ask ourselves what is truely required to play good golf. It actually doesn't take that much...
