This. All of this is why I love the side of golf I cover. This guy has had so many huge moments in golf. Top 22 in the world at one time, Euro Wins, and Ryder Cups. And I’d venture to guess this wins means more than any of that.

LIV Golf have sold nearly 100,000 tickets for their first ever event in South Africa, putting it on track to comfortably be the best attended golf event ever held in the country. Charl Schwartzel spoke about the growth of LIV Golf since their inaugural event in 2022: “Yeah, I mean, that first event in June in 2022, there was a lot of turmoil in our sport, a lot of uncertainty. Obviously it was coming from guys that had come to LIV. Nobody was sure what to expect… “But from a LIV standpoint, it's been fantastic to be part of it, to see how it's grown, gotten better. Every year they improve. “We've had a taste of it every year in Adelaide, where you can see what it can be, because that's like the pinnacle of the LIV events. Now just to see what we've created here in South Africa, it makes you very proud to see. This is fantastic. “I don't think there's any -- there's never been a golfing event in South Africa that's ever been set up like this, and I don't think many sporting events here. This is really amazing, and it's sort of a great -- to have seen, and like I said, proud to be a part of it, that's what we thought and what we were told it could be when we signed up with LIV, and it's really come to life. It's amazing.” LIV Golf Adelaide is currently the premier event on the league attracting 77,000 fans in 2023 for the first playing and 115,000 this year. With LIV Golf South Africa immediately approaching 100,000 in the first season, there is a real rivalry between the two countries to be the biggest event on the LIV Golf League. Anthony Kim is in the middle of an incredible comeback season. Having been relegated from LIV Golf last year, he earned his way back via the Promotions Event and then won on the league almost immediately in Adelaide. He’s not done there though, AK is now targeting a return to the Masters in 2027. Ahead of LIV Golf Andalucia, AK spoke to Flushing It Golf about how his season is going so far: “1% better is something that I'm keeping with me every day. “To get a win early in the season, especially in Australia, was amazing, and getting that moment with my family was amazing. But I've had a couple weeks where my focus wasn't as good as I wanted, so theres a lot to improve on still. I think that I'm progressing in the right way, and if I just keep working, I'll keep getting better.” AK’s success has been a simple combination of hard work and focusing on the fundamentals to utilise the incredible natural talent he’s had throughout his career. He spoke about the importance of getting the basics right: “I was just explaining to my friend over there, no matter how well you're playing, you always have to go back to the fundamentals. Whether it's alignment, posture, grip, all the small things to keep playing good golf. I think no matter how far along I get, whether I win a bunch more times, no matter what the result, I still have to focus on that first. And then everything else will take care of itself.” AK’s concentrating right now on solely playing LIV Golf events. But once the league season is over, he plans to play on The International Series on the Asian Tour, with a specific target of the Hong Kong Open, where there is a Masters spot on the line. He spoke about the target of returning to Augusta: “Yeah, the target is to give myself an opportunity, not only to play a major, but to win a major. I know that sounds crazy, but it also sounded crazy for me to be contending to win a golf tournament, let alone to actually win. “So, I'm excited for the opportunity that I have in front of me, and I think I'm gonna be able to keep getting better as long as I keep working.” AK still has a great chance to qualify for The Open this week at Valderrama for the highest ranked player on the LIV Golf Standings who isn’t already exempt. Anthony Kim talks about how it feels being on a team for the first time on the LIV Golf League: “I'm just one day in, but obviously I wouldn't have accepted to be on the team if I didn't like all three of the guys. I've gotten to play with Thomas now quite a bit, and just being around guys that I want to hang out with off the golf course is the reason I chose to be on a team because obviously I had an option to stay wild card. “But honored to be a part of the team, and I think as I get better, the team will have more chances to win.” He then spoke about his expectations and goals for the season: “I'm delusional enough that my expectations were the same today as they were two years ago. But now I'm actually able to produce some of the good shots. “I've been working hard, and it's nice to see rounds like today where they could have been much lower, but it was still solid and on a tricky day. “I think I have a lot of opportunity in front of me, and if I just keep working, I don't see why I can't be contending on Sundays. “My goals are the same as they were when I first joined LIV. How is it possible that this swing can shoot around even par on a golf course I've never played or even seen before? Here's just a few god awful looking swings of mine due to the fact my back was in pain every shot... (lower back seized up) You know what I learned from playing golf crippled... I learned that you don't actually need to do much to play good golf & hit the golf ball where you want I was swinging the club no faster than 95mph (If I was lucky), I did however hit it pretty damn straight most of the time, got up & down a lot, & holed a few putts I wasn't trying to stop early extension. I wasn't trying to "drop it in the slot". I wasn't trying to "get open at impact (I couldn't). All I tried to do was swing my arms & control where the face was at impact I played better golf than 99% of golfers on the planet & I had no speed + a crippled lower back I think we need to ask ourselves what is truely required to play good golf. It actually doesn't take that much...

Scottie Scheffler was asked ahead of the Travelers Championship how he feels about the impact it’s had on the game: “Yeah, I think it's great for golf to become more mainstream. I think you see, especially since COVID, there's been a tremendous growth in the amount of people that are playing golf. “I think it's the greatest game in the world. You learn a lot about life. I met some of my best friends in the whole world playing golf. So for people getting involved in the sport I think is tremendous. “Like I said, getting to spend four hours with somebody outside hanging out playing a game is something that's pretty rare in the busyness I think that we live in today. So getting out taking some time with your buddies and going to play golf is one of the most fun things you can do. Seeing my golf swing from when I started to where I am now after taking on lessons and practicing is really showing it’s been paying off. A lot more to work and improve on but scoring my new record of 84 is awesome considering I was usually shooting in the 90s. Let’s go!
