Democracy is never of a kind where the same party will ever come to power. We have seen in our lifetimes, the change takes place at state level, at panchayat level, at municipal level, that's a democratic process. But one thing is for sure, there has to be continuity of development, continuity of our civilisational ethos, and that comes only from one aspect. We must respect democratic culture. India is perhaps the only country in the world that has constitutionally structured democracy at all levels. Before 30 years, we had constitutional democracy only in the State legislature and Parliament. But now we have constitutional democracy at the village level, at panchayat level, and the district level. #RajyaSabha

At the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside committed members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and patriotic Nigerians, our resolve has only deepened. What began as a call has now become a movement. Indian democracy is actually a global public good. It's not just an Indian asset; it's a global asset. When I'm talking about the attack on the Indian democratic system, it's actually an attack not just on the Indian democratic system but also an attack on the global democratic system. In the last press conference, it was asked what to do when the democratic structure is not working. What we are doing is making it absolutely clear to the people of India what has happened. We are informing the people that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are not legitimately in government. Similarly, the CM of Haryana is not legitimately in government because it has been stolen. It's the same with the government of Maharashtra. On Constitution Day, we remind ourselves that its survival rests on our collective courage. The values in the Preamble, including justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, are increasingly sidelined by those in power. Institutions meant to protect our freedoms are weakened, dissent is discouraged, and constitutional morality is treated as an inconvenience. At a time when democratic norms are under strain and the balance of power tilts dangerously, we must remember that the Constitution does not defend itself. It lives only when we stand up for it, uphold its spirit, and hold every government accountable to its founding ideals.

Repression and political persecution cannot be tolerated in our hemisphere. We reiterate our call for the unconditional release of all political prisoners and support greater transparency, accountability, and democratic guarantees for the Venezuelan people. The OAS stands ready to support dialogue, democratic institutions, and a peaceful, Venezuelan-led path toward stability, reconciliation, and prosperity.
