Congressman Hamadeh asks General Michael Kurilla, U.S. Army Commander, U.S. Central Command: 1⃣How is the integration of the Syrian Kurdish forces with the government forces of Syria going? 2⃣Does he envision that integration could also include other minority militias, such as the Druze, Christians, or Alawites, in Syria?

It’s not as if, just last night, there was a prolonged shootout between Hayat Tahrir al-Sham–led Syrian security forces and the SDF near Deir Ezzor, around (الجزرات), on the banks of the Euphrates River.

Rep. Hamadeh’s question is important. The SDF alongside Kurds, Druze, Christians, Alawites, and other communities are not opposed to a political solution. But none of these groups want to be dissolved and forced under a so-called ‘new Syrian government’ fronted by an ex–Al-Qaeda thugs. They seek decentralization, protection for their communities, and the right to maintain their own forces, like the SDF, that defended Syrians when Damascus failed. The U.S. must stand with these local forces not hand Syria back to war criminals and jihadists.

Their only concern is passifying the Kurds. Kurds deserve full independence after defeating ISIS and sacrificing 15K martyrs. @centcomcdr @SecRubio @DonaldTrump

The integration of Syrian Kurdish forces with Damascus is a bureaucratic mess. The March 2025 deal claims to merge SDF units into Syria’s defense ministry, but the YPG’s unresolved status and Turkey’s demands for its dissolution guarantee gridlock. U.S. taxpayer dollars have propped up these forces for years, yet the Pentagon still can’t deliver a coherent strategy. The SDF controls 25% of Syria—including oil fields—while D.C. pours cash into a fractured alliance. As for integrating Druze or Alawite militias? More fantasy. Washington’s track record in Syria is wasted funds and endless conflict. Real accountability means cutting the bloat, not expanding it.
