I was interested to see Aspinall's game plan because it looked like he didn't really push hard for any takedowns, and my guess is probably that he was just waiting for the right time. It was right after I retired and I was being a bit of a baby. I felt like a loser at that point, I lost that fight. What am I gonna go accept an award for losing a fight? It was a great lesson and taught me so much about myself. I don't have any bad feelings at all, and I'm glad it came out the way it did. I think it was meant to be that I didn't win that fight. I don't think it would have been any good for me with where I was at my life at that point to carry that."

After an opening 74 at the PGA Championship that he described as “shit”, Rory McIlroy bounced back with a bogey free 67 that he says was “not as shit” to comfortably make the cut.
