Maria Jose Marin had an incredible answer when asked by Brentley Romine about the relationship with her dad. "He's always been my role model. He's been by my side since I started playing golf. He was the one that taught me the love for this game. "He decided this year that he can't be on the bag. He had the experience with me last year. He said, you need someone that knows. I love you with all my heart, but you need someone that knows how to handle a tournament of this level. I think it was one of the most beautiful decisions that he could have ever made because he was totally selfless. He was like, I know that you need someone else, but I'm going to be there supporting you."

When asked about that after the Celtics’ win over the Raptors tonight, Brown, normally hands on with his off-court ventures, discussed the value of building a team he can trust. “I’ve been able to develop my team outside of basketball, where I have people that I can delegate to, that I can focus on everything else.” “Now, I’ve been able to assemble a team that I trust. So I can let them do that, and I can just focus on basketball, on the season.”

Google founder Larry Page on how he learned to run a business When asked how he learned to run a business, Google cofounder Larry Page responds: “I read a lot of books.” He joked: “[When renaming Google to Alphabet] I read like three books on naming—which is more than anyone else had read. So I decided I was the expert . . . and actually that was useful. I recommend reading things.” It’s an important mindset that is often overlooked. One of the richest ways to learn something is reading things written by people who deeply understand their subject matter. Even Elon Musk was able to teach himself about the fundamentals of rocket design and astrodynamics by reading books. He is often quoted on this topic: “I read books and talked to people. I mean that's kind of how one learns anything. There's lots of great books out there and lots of smart people.” Building a startup is an infinite set of problems that are being thrown at you. Next time you’re facing one of those problems, I’d recommend finding the best book or blog post you can on the topic and reading it. And they just look at, you know, these other investment opportunities as, as having the same merit that a stock does, or a bond. And the other thing that's occurred which I think is good is there's all kinds of apps now that can help someone who's never understood what a stock or bond is invest by simply doing it for them, almost AI-driven. I'm involved with one called Beanstox but there's lots of them, and you could just download that app and start investing.

Steve Jobs offers a contrarian view: The CEO isn't at the top of the company, they're at the bottom. When Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, the company was near collapse with a market value of just $3 billion. He came back with a radically different philosophy on how great companies should operate, one that flipped the traditional hierarchy upside down. Jobs explains his thinking: "Where you've got incredibly talented people that are also rare and in demand. If you don't treat them right, they can go get another job in 10 minutes, right? So this strange thing happens which is that the hierarchy of power inverts and the CEO is actually at the bottom." For Jobs, this reflected how he genuinely saw his role: "I sort of feel like I work for most of these people because they're the ones that are doing all the brilliant work. And it's the same in software. It's the same thing. The best people are very hard to come by. And so it's management's job to support them cuz they're on the front lines doing the work. That's kind of how we run the place." When asked how he actually puts this into practice, Jobs broke it down: "We do that by creating the right environment, a very rich environment, and removing obstacles out of their way and putting together the right teams of people together and getting the right projects, keeping the quality levels very high both in terms of people and strategy and projects."

And what was the point of Reg FD? It was basically that if you're a CFO, you cannot talk to an individual stock manager and tell him something that you then don't tell everybody else. Essentially inside information. That used to be not illegal. I won't say that it was legal. I would just say that used to be not illegal. You call your CFO buddy, he says, "hey, how you doing?" He goes, man, "Quarter was a blockbuster." You would go and buy the stock. And starting in the 2000s, it became illegal. And there used to be these networks of information arbitrage that took advantage of this. Now, this is an example of Warren Buffett's returns, pre and post Reg FD. Now, what do you see? His returns were double the market returns when this kind of information sharing was legal. And the minute that it became illegal and you had to basically act on the same edge as everybody else, his returns went to the market return. He generated zero alpha. In fact, he probably on the margins lost a little bit. So this is the single best investor in the world. This is what happens when you have information symmetry. So it's just meant to explain that markets when there's asymmetry. Billions and billions of dollars will be made in asymmetry. The prediction markets today, unless they are regulated out of existence or shut down, will look like the stock market pre-Reg FD."
