We discussed: • How to influence engineers • Why code review is undervalued • Projects that got him promoted • Learnings from a major failed project • Examples of engineers he admires • Advice for his younger self His style of influence is one of my favorites; he's the type of engineer that digs deep and solves problems others can't. Mayor Sadiq Khan: From a London council estate to one of the top jobs in politics. Sadiq Khan is the Mayor of London, one of the top jobs in British politics. He is extremely ambitious and has achieved huge success in his career, previously working as a Labour MP and a human rights solicitor. But Sadiq came from humble beginnings. He grew up on a council estate in Tooting with 7 siblings. I absolutely loved my conversation with the Mayor. We discussed how to make tough decisions, whether sacrifices are necessary for a successful career, why more CEOs aren’t in politics and his new campaign to make London safer for women. Had a great conversation with Richard Seroter, Senior Director and Chief Evangelist at Google Cloud, during Google I/O Connect India in Bangalore today. We spoke about how he uses Gemini in his day to day work, how Google is handling the massive compute demand for AI, why defining goals matters more than writing perfect specs, and what's next for Gemini.

Almost five years ago, one of our bright beneficiaries, David, lost his mother after she travelled to the Upper East Region to seek medical treatment. He became an orphan. In the midst of that tragedy, he left Accra and disappeared from our scholarship programme. We did everything we could to bring him back. We had even identified a loving family that was ready to take him in so he could continue his education through our Student Training and Education Programme (STEP), but his family was not ready to let him return. We never gave up. In 2024, we heard that David had returned to Accra, so we travelled to Kasoa to look for him. We were relieved to find him, but his family was not forthcoming, making it difficult for us to stay in touch. Sadly, by the time we returned, he had been taken back to the Upper East Region. Then, just recently, we received the phone call we had been praying for. One of David’s cousins had brought him back after learning that he was being mistreated. At just 13 years old, David had been out of school for years and was being made to work on farms instead. Today, David is finally back. He may be behind in school, but he is not behind in potential. We are determined to help him catch up, heal, and build the future he deserves. As we prepare to support David’s return to school, he will need school fees, uniforms, books, stationery, personal items, counselling, and the care every child deserves to thrive. If David’s story has touched your heart and you would like to help him, we’d be very grateful for your support. Every contribution will go towards helping him rebuild his life and continue his education. Because every child deserves a chance. And at For The Future Ghana, we refuse to give up on children who need our help the most. If you’d like to support David, please send me a DM. 🙏🏽

Still think about Jerry turning down $110m from NBC to do a 10th season of “Seinfeld”. He told Howard Stern: “The love affair between people making the show and the audience was so intense…I had to respect that. I could’t go to that point where it starts to age and wither. For example, you go see a comedian and at an hour and 10 minutes, you love the guy. At an hour and 30 [minutes], it’s like…I thought he was never going to finish. You walk out with a whole different feeling. It’s a small amount of too much — too much cake, too much anything — [can ruin it].” Larry David had left at the end of Season 7. Jerry said he might have stayed if Larry stayed. But starring, lead writing and executive producing for Season 8 and 9 was too much of a grind. He also says, “I have to say I have a sense of timing. I just knew. I knew that was our moment.” Jerry is a huge fan of The Beatles and a lesson he drew from them was that creative endeavours have a shelf life. Paul, Ringo, John and George were together…for just under 10 years. *** Vid link:

David Marcus and I just sat down for an incredible conversation. For me, David is on the Mount Rushmore of stablecoin builders. He is what the young folks call an "OG". I pride myself on being able to extract valuable information for listeners, but David is such a cornucopia of knowledge that I barely scratched the surface. It was an honor and a pleasure to pick his brain about his contrarian takes, how to build a durable payments company, and what the world needs to see to make money work the way it ought to. If you are strapped for time, fast-forward through all the parts where I open my mouth and listen to how and why David is building his company. It will be worth your time. fast-forward

“For a long time, I was a guest in our house” Thierry Henry speaks from his soul. He has depth. He’s a man in touch with himself. I recall some years ago, he spoke about how much he wanted to please his father on Steven Bartlett Diary of a CEO podcast. Everything he aimed to achieve was to please the voice that rang in his head, telling him to do it better. His father stood behind him while he built a career, probably saw the good many never saw. As a father, he also mentioned how COVID-19 changed his life. It was the point he chose his family. That was probably why he said at some point, he became a guest in his house. Men become guests in their house. There was a Reminisce Alaga interview I saw. I think it was on ISaidWhatISaidPod. He said there was a point he went into his daughter(s) room and asked when they painted the wall pink. His wife told him it’s been there for two years. He said that was the point he thought it important to rest on the tours and be with his children. At that point, he probably was a guest in his house. Men’s lives are not easy. Footballers especially — elite footballers most especially are like tour musicians. They’re often on the road. You’re playing away games round the country, spending three days or more away from home when you have continental away games. Gabriel Jesus spoke about the same thing in his recent interview with The Players’ Tribune titled “A Letter to My Family and my Arsenal Family”. He said football made him distant but his ACL injury brought him closer. “I wasn’t the husband and father that I needed to be,” he said. When his wife gave birth to his daughter, he said he only held her for one day. Brazil called and he had to go. And he was a guy who grew up without a father. For his child at the time, he was there now but wasn’t there too. “I always promised myself: When I become a father, I will always be there for my kids. “When Helena was born, I was not living up to that. I was there, but I was always distracted, you know? Always catching a flight.” That’s the tough decisions men have to make sometimes. At the point of growth and ascent, life will ask questions, and difficult decisions will need to be made. Hopefully, it will be one that won’t damage the future. The future one is securing.

After the death of King Saul and his son Jonathan, David became king. One day, David asked, 'Is there anyone left of the house of Saul to whom I may show kindness for Jonathan's sake?' They told him about Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, who was lame in both feet. He had been living in hiding in a desolate place called Lo-Debar — a land of nothing — fearing for his life, expecting judgment from the new king. When the king's servants came for him, Mephibosheth was brought before David. Trembling, he fell on his face and said, 'What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?' But David replied, 'Do not fear. For I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul, and you shall eat at my table always — as one of my own sons.' Mephibosheth, once broken and forgotten, was now welcomed into the king's family, eating at the royal table for the rest of his days.
