I've been recommending incandescent light bulbs. But what about your kitchen? Your bathroom? Incandescents don't fit most of those fixtures. The answer: halogen bulbs. Glen Jeffery, UCL: "In the kitchen I have got a halogen lamp. When you get up in the morning and you're spending that 45 minutes doing stuff — there's a halogen lamp there on at the right time." Halogen is a type of incandescent. Almost identical full spectrum output. Infrared included. The key difference: Halogen bulbs contain halogen gas that redeposits tungsten back onto the filament as it evaporates — longer lifespan, same full spectrum output. The result: longer lifespan than a standard incandescent, higher operating temperature, and slightly whiter light — but still full spectrum with significant infrared output. Like incandescents, halogen bulbs have been phased out and banned across much of Europe and the UK. But they can still be found — Amazon, specialist lighting suppliers, some hardware stores still carry stock. And if you can dim them: "If you just turn the power down — which increases the amount of infrared light — the bulb will last almost forever." Jeffery's team ran a study in a windowless UCL building under harsh LED lighting. They replaced desk lamps with 40W incandescent bulbs — not aimed at eyes, just supplementing the environment. Two weeks later: color perception improved significantly — more than anything they'd seen with long-wavelength LEDs. They removed the bulbs. Came back six days later. The improvement was maintained. A month later — still maintained. Jeffery: "We are suffering from a suppression of our physiology via mitochondria that is just being produced by the built environment." The fix doesn't have to be complicated. Incandescent bulbs where you can. Halogen in the kitchen and bathroom where you can't. Indoor lighting environment sorted.

💬: is your eye color genetic? 👑: well my mother's eyes are very light, too. i guess, i take after my mom’s eyes. actually, my mom told me about these light eyes—i don’t know if it’s true or not, but she said having light eyes isn't always a good thing. it’s something i heard when i was a kid. i don't mean to boast, but people told me my eyes were pretty when i was a kid. my mom's eyes are also light, so she’d tell me, “your eyes are just like mine”. she also said having light eyes isn't always a good thing. when i asked why, she told me it’s because when it’s sunny— it's harder for light eyes to deal with the glare. so she said that when the sun is beaming down, it’s probably hard to keep your eyes open 💬: your noona? 👑: my noona doesn’t have light eyes 👑: no wonder i’m always squinting in the summer when the sun is super bright. meanwhile my friends could keep their eyes wide open like this. so i was like, “is it just me who's blinded by the sun?”. i guess it might just be me. 💬: omg i pretty much walk around with my eyes squinting too 👑: right. for people who struggle to open their eyes in the sun, it must be really tough 👑: for example if we’re shooting an album cover or some important photos outdoors in the sun—for someone like me who can barely open their eyes in the light, the photographers will be like—i just stand there with my eyes closed, and the photographer will be like, “okay, one, two, three”, and i open my eyes, hold it for like two seconds, and then close them again. and then, when they go “one, two, three” again, i open my eyes, try so hard to hold it like *eunngggh* and then close them right back up. that’s how i do my photoshoots 💬: is studio lights/lighting okay? 👑: i’ve gotten used to studio lights/lighting now. i’m totally fine with studio lights/lighting. but i just can't get used to the sun! seriously sunlight is really hard

Ivan Passer on the reason why 'Intimate Lighting' (1965) was banned by the communist government in Czechoslovakia for 20 years: "Interviewer: It seems inconceivable that 'Intimate Lighting' (1965), an almost plotless comedy about the everyday pleasures of life, should have been banned for 20 years. Can you explain it? Passer: I believe that the Party was worried when they saw ordinary people, with all their weaknesses and strengths, depicted on screen. I think they also preferred to be attacked directly rather than to be ignored completely. Before the clampdown, Milos and I got together to discuss how in this godforsaken country we could make good movies. We took a piece of paper and we wrote down several points like “it should be a comedy,” because the Communist Party and the censorship were more tolerant with comedies. “It should be shot outside of the studio, in the streets,” because they would not look over our shoulder that much. “We will use non actors” and “We will use natural light.” My first film, using these precepts, was a 20-minute short, 'A Boring Afternoon' (1964), about all the things that happen when, ostensibly, nothing is happening. Miroslav Ondricek, who shot it, was a soccer fan. He believed that his filming a number of matches made him more able to work with non-actors who could not be expected to hit their marks for lighting. When casting Intimate Lighting, which was about a group of friends who play music together, I had to decide whether to have actors pretending to play instruments, or musicians who I could get to act. I settled for non-actors. We were at a music school, and I literally grabbed the principal in the corridor and asked him if he would play the lead role of the cellist. At first he didn’t want to do it, but after he read the script, he said, “It’s about me.”" (Ivan Passer's interview with Ronald Bergan, Film Comment, 2016) P.S: On this day, 61 years ago, 'Intimate Lighting' (1965) was released in Czechoslovakia.

#GMMTVFANDAY31 #JoongDunk #จุงดัง live ~ : not long ago the 2 of you released a photobook. in it you drove around played with goats and even did some archery right? so i’d like to ask if there were any fun stories or memorable moments during the photobook shoot that you’d like to share with everyone 🌞: let (Dunk) speak first 🌻: first of all this photobook comes about four to five years after our first one which is a very long time. i really enjoyed every single concept in this shoot. like you mentioned there were moments when we met goats and took photos with them scenes inside a car, archery sessions and many different concepts all packed into one day. i honestly enjoyed every moment of the experience 🌞as for me i have to say that the company was very thoughtful. they gave us the opportunity to share our ideas from the beginning .. asking what kind of concept we wanted .. what style of photos we wanted to shoot and what overall look and atmosphere we were aiming for. cause of that we had the chance to create mood boards and send the team our ideas regarding locations - outfits - concepts and other details so i feel that this is a photobook in which we were involved quite heavily throughout the creative process : …. and in the end “eyes on you” was completed and released. so Joong feels that this is a project in which he was deeply involved throughout the creative process. his level of participation in this work was exceptionally high 🌞that’s right. we hope everyone will enjoy and love this photobook

Announcing LUMIOS, the world's first human-friendly LED. Powered by revolutionary Ra Incandescent LED technology, Lumios addresses the problems of conventional LED lighting. 1. excess blue light -> low / optimized blue light • Conventional LEDs emit excessive blue light, threatening the eyes, chronically overstimulating the hormonal & nervous systems, and disrupting sleep and cellular repair. • Lumios uses advanced LED chips and light conversion technology to smooth the spectrum, reducing unnatural blue spikes and offering a low-blue, hormonally neutral spectrum, which supports balance and rejuvenation. 2. near-infrared absence -> near-infrared enriched • Conventional LEDs completely lack the near-infrared wavelengths which are essential for eyes, skin, and cellular health. • Lumios utilizes advanced phosphor technology to emit significant quantities of near-infrared light, comparable to a traditional incandescent bulb, and more than any broadband visible LED ever made. 3. poor color rendering -> ultra-high color rendering • Conventional LEDs emit a deficient spectrum which causes people and objects to appear pale, dull, and lifeless. • Lumios’ broad spectrum offers the highest color rendering ever achieved with an LED — almost identical to a standard incandescent bulb — so you can experience people and objects in their true colors. Everything looks and feels better. 4. AC flicker -> flicker-free • Conventional LEDs utilize cheap circuitry which carries AC voltage onto the light source, causing a rapid sub-perceptible flicker which has been linked to migraine headaches and cognitive disturbance. • Lumios utilizes high-quality circuitry to remove AC flicker, allowing your brain and nervous system to relax — while allowing you to think clearly and perform your best. 5. excessive brightness -> multi-modal design • Standard LEDs are typically far too bright, optimized for maximum brightness and efficiency rather than visual comfort. • Lumios utilizes an advanced multi-modal design — compatible with standard light switches — providing you with optimal light for every space, setting, and time of day. Lumios unifies the biological benefits of the classic incandescent spectrum with the technological capabilities of LED technology, making it the most advanced light ever created. Experience a new light. Available now.

ZELENSKYY ON HIS CONVERSATION WITH ABRAMOVICH: Ceasefire is the biggest compromise from our side to your side. ZELENSKYY: Abramovich, so he came to Kyiv,bI think that he said: "I have message direct to you, and I want to get message, and take message from you, and to give it to Putin." But he said that it has to be silently, without any kind of, public messages. I said, "Look, it's your choice. Okay, for us it doesn't matter, public or un-public." But it's always with Russians such way. If they say something has to be between us, it's mean that tomorrow not only we will know about it. But it's not a secret. He came, and he wanted to give me the message that they want to to understand what we are ready to do. I said: "The question is not about us. You are fighting against us on our territory." And I said to him about Donbas, it was the key message. And I said: "No, we will not leave, and we will not go out from our territory. No, we will not give you a victory such way. And you will not get it." And we spoke about any kind of compromises. I said that all the compromises after ceasefire. Ceasefire is the biggest compromise from our side to your side. JOURNALIST: So is he a go-between now? Between you and Vladimir Putin, he's going back and forth? ZELENSKYY: I don't know. When he got message from me, he said he will go directly to Putin. I said: "Okay, I'm ready to meet, not in Moscow, not in Belarus, and not in Minsk," and it's understandable why. I said, "You can choose any time from tomorrow. You can choose any day, any format. We can choose with President Trump. I'm sure that he will be ready to come, and we can do it with Europeans. I'm sure that everybody want to help, or we can choose the way bilateral, just bilateral meeting."

The Cameras ✨ Back in February I started exploring the idea of creating an art collection that doubles up as a PFP. After months of experimenting with different colour theories, art styles and AI, The Cameras are finished and ready for you to make a choice. Here’s all the info: The Cameras are built on a brand new dynamic Transient Labs contract called Collectors Choice. It works in a very similar way to now @amadon’s Doppelgänger. Each NFT points to one of multiple artworks in an array, and the collector can use the ‘ChangeURI’ function within the contract, to point to whichever artwork within the array they choose. But here’s the difference; there will be a deadline. Make as many changes as you wish, but once the deadline passes, your choice will be locked in and metadata will be frozen. To start, everyone will mint the same placeholder artwork. I will then reveal the 'Colour Series'; 70 cameras with various background colours, to choose which ever colour you want. Following that, 4 more series will be revealed sporadically, making up a total of 126 different cameras to choose from. Meaning, there’s more then enough for everyone to end up with a 1/1. However, chances are, someone will choose the same camera as you. You’ll then have a second decision to make, are you happy sharing the art and holding an edition, or will you choose different art for a 1/1? For me, once all the metadata is locked in, rarity won’t really matter. But the total number of cameras in each series, total number of 1/1s, total number of editions and total count of each edition, will all be decided by the collectors. Get ready to make your choice. - Mint Details: • Supply: 70 • Mint Price: 0.35 eth • 48hr Pre-Sale Mint: Aug 14th (7pm UTC) Collectors of 0xdgb’s 1/1 art + a few select people will get early access for 48 hours. • Public Mint: Aug 16th (7pm UTC) - Mint URL, series reveals, the deadline and instructions on how to choose your camera will be announced when needed.

Actual hardware capture of the latest build of jnmartin's #Doom 64 port to the Sega #Dreamcast, which has now become the definitive, prettiest way to enjoy the title, with its dynamic lighting and bump mapping. SO MUCH NEW SHIT TO TALK ABOUT: First of all, this is the very first game to utilize the brand new "hybrid" vertex submission mechanism we just added to KallistiOS. It was a long, cruel week to get all of the issues there sorted out, but they have been, and it has further boosted the game's performance while under load and is now something the rest of the DC community can utilize in their homebrew. This scene in particular used to lag using the traditional, DMA-based vertex submission mechanism with all of the lights and its higher geometric complexity, but notice it's not even dropping a frame now! Next, support for the Dreamcast's MOUSE and KEYBOARD have been added. These controls play EXTREMELY well and feel like a very smooth, natural way to play the game, if you want the Steam/PC control scheme. Finally... if there is any doubt as to whether the Dreamcast version is actually the definitive way to the play the game, jnmartin now allows you to export the assets from the (LEGALLY PURCHASED, DAMNIT!!!) Steam version, and import them into the Dreamcast version, where you can enjoy the extra bonus levels and campaign with the new and improved graphics! THIS IS NOW PUBLICLY AVAILABLE! The project repository, along with the README with build instructions can be found here: #gamedev #retrogaming #n64
