Day 5 of learning Go after office hours. Started with implementing Raft algo & project design is: N number of nodes (Go servers) inside a K8s StatefulSet with a gateway service deployed separately routing requests from the clients to the leader of that cluster. Gateway service can ping the current leader but if it changed, the node will respond with the new leaders address & the service will send a new req to the new leader. (You can loosely say its acting like a reverse proxy. We can also route the req from the follower internally to the new leader but I want to keep that limited to Gateway) Each node will have its own persistence (sql DB) & a log file (for recording ops from client). It's a fairly simple setup & I aim to learn some DevOps too with it projects on orchestration & deployments. (Design diagram in comments)

DuckDB just released Quack: a client/server protocol over HTTP. Any DuckDB can serve (quack_serve()), any DuckDB can attach to it. DuckDB-Wasm included since it's plain HTTP on port 9494. Some fun stuff : - A browser tab talking directly to a DuckDB server somewhere on the internet - Local-first apps with a remote target that speaks the exact same dialect - Notebook-to-notebook query forwarding Curious what people will build with this. We've got a few ideas brewing at MotherDuck too :) And while we're at it, can we finally retire the "DuckDB has no multi-writer support" take? There are plenty of options out there now, just depends how you want to slice and dice.

So here is new local privilege escalation zero-day I discovered, not patched yet too :). In simple terms, if you have a service like RDP that exposes an RPC server, there many system services running as SYSTEM connect to it as RPC clients. If that service is turned off (RDP is off by default), it seems that any other process in Windows can expose the same RPC server using the same endpoint. Now all the RPC calls from that SYSTEM processes will come to this fake server and If the process that deployed the server has SeImpersonatePrivilege, it can escalate to SYSTEM by impersonate the RPC client. In the white paper below, I describe five exploit paths you can abuse. However it's architecture problem and maybe there are more. It's Not A Potato

Announcing Hermes-node Hermes can now run as a standalone CLI with Node.js-compatible APIs - no C++ embedding required. Technically, hermes-node is a Node.js API compatibility layer for Hermes. It ports Node's native bindings (fs, net, http, child_process, etc.) to Node-API and reuses Node's original lib/*.js files, allowing standard Node.js programs to run on Hermes instead of V8. It vendors libuv, c-ares, llhttp, Ada, simdutf, etc to provide the same networking and I/O stack as Node, and runs as a standalone CLI binary. In this demo: - REPL with tab completion - TypeScript HTTP server using http, fs, and path - Type annotations stripped natively by the parser — no transpiler, not even a built-in one. what have I been working on for the last 2 weeks at OpenCode? we are bringing workspaces in as a first-class concept: agents will be able to run anywhere: local directory/container/worktree, remote sandbox, or anything. instead of having a single server that only knows about local directories, the server will act as a "control plane" that routes prompts to where they should go it will manage all of the sessions across these environments and provide a unified layer for all clients to interact with them we will be smart about this: it's not *only* about routing. we will sync all data from remote environments into the local control plane server. this means the remote env can be destroyed, and we will be able to later recreate a new env with exactly the same state. it's reproducible note: this is very early and experimental, the UI you see the video is just a prototype and not guaranteed to make it to prod. We hope to start shipping something soon-ish though!

After more than two-years of Padyatra through thousands of villages and small towns of Bihar, we formally started the process of party formation to give a better alternative that would end decades of misery and ensure a better future for the children of #Bihar Yesterday, the process began with the first of the eight office bearers’ convention before the official launch of the party on Oct 02nd. Over the next two months 1.5 lakh Jan Suraaj office bearers together with lacs of participating “Sansthapak Sadasyas” of #JanSuraaj will deliberate, and decide on the key priorities of the party; draft and finalize a party constitution, and finally ELECT the leader(s) of the party. As promised, I will not be seeking any post in the party and will continue with my grassroots outreach for the next many months. And it all began with the prayer chosen by the people here in an online survey!
