Today, we clocked 7 weeks into the intensive programming training I earlier talked about. The 12 of them made a deposit of N2M each as a security. It’s a 9 months program and once they are done they get back their funds with a bonus of N500k and a guaranteed job. I could feel the very impressive progress and energy. The lady in yellow wanted to run away after the first week but a little word of encouragement changed everything. She now leads group A on an Ajo App project with C. My aim is to train top quality engineers with deep understanding of first principles and core programming concepts. This started as an experiment but the outcome it’s beyond my imaginations.

We finally pulled the plug on per day pricing. It had to be done. The problem with per day pricing is it always creates winners and losers. - If we’re on site for 8 hours and don’t quite finish, we feel obligated to work extra to get it done. We lose. - If we finish a project in 5 hours and the customer paid for 8, they feel like they lost. It’s a simple system to start with. Customers understand it, it’s easy to quote, but it’s not scalable. It relies too much on experience and too much back and forth. So we switched to project based pricing. Now we’ve got 3 tiers of brush density and 3 tiers of terrain. Tier 1 is easy, Tier 3 is tough. Pricing scales per quarter acre, with volume discounts on larger jobs. It seems more complex on paper, but in reality it’s repeatable, reliable, and something we can train any new hire to do. We calculate the project, send the estimate, and that’s it. No more “estimated days” language. No more winners and losers. We’re much happier with this system.

Kitten update #8: The kitties are back home! Everyone is getting very strong and active now. I forgot to take their weights this morning so I'll have to do it before the next feeding, but I'm confident everyone is continuing to gain. We started adding in some wet food today. I mixed up a slurry with some of the formula and stuck it in a syringe with a nipple on it. Nobody took to it right away except gray tuxedo, who loved it, but everyone else got some squirted in while they were chewing on the milk nipple and then they loved it. Well, except for dark tortie, which is a little ironic since she is by far the biggest little monster of the litter, but I guess she's done so well on the formula she's not interested in making a change yet. Butts are all looking SO much better now that I stopped using the wet wipes. However, we have now started to have some concerns about little to no pooping. Dark tortie hasn't pooped for 24 hours so I eliminated the yogurt from the formula and am crossing my fingers for some action before the end of the day or back to the vet she goes. I don't know how long they'll let me play with their tummies like this but it sure is fun for now!

Let's talk about agentic product design. Every company has its own design process. What has always worked for me is spending long studio hours with our product team, dissecting things into pieces and putting them back together. In those sessions we look at value, usability, simplicity, aesthetics, behavior, storytelling, generics, and emotional mapping. I've been crafting products this way for as long as I can remember. Product work at Lemonade isn't for the faint of heart. This obsession over every detail is hard work, but I believe it yields better results and builds stronger talent. One of the things I love about our design and product team is how this process became a second nature to them. Feedback is fast, professional, and tension free. But in our latest session, something was different. One of our designers used Figma and Cursor to build a mockup that was so advanced, it was almost ready to be shipped. It was an incredible glimpse into a world where a single designer working on top of modern low code infrastructure will be able to launch production grade experiences for products with millions of customers, and with LoCo, I expect this to become a reality at Lemonade in just a few quarters. But there's a problem to watch out for. An interesting phenomenon I've noticed over the years is that the higher the fidelity of the work being reviewed, the more defensive people become. When someone shows up with something polished, they tend to resist feedback. They've already fallen in love with what they built, and it's hard for them to accept rejection. Radical candor feedback works best at an early stage of the project, before people get attached and feel the need to defend their work. This session was no exception. Because the work was so advanced, the review became binary, and its maker became defensive. Happily, we all caught ourselves in time to acknowledge this new dynamic and started figuring out how to go back to obsessing about every corner radius, shade of white, and word. When reviewing agentically coded designs, we'll try having our designers bring in more than one option, as well as the open Cursor project so we can make changes in real time if needed. We'll see how it goes, and if this is of interest, I'll update what we learn.

We have now been informed that a naval drone—which is NOT Ukrainian (according to the Minister of Defense)—loaded with explosives was destroyed 80-100 meters from the Neptun Deep platform. Back in 2023, I wrote about a secret everyone knew: Neptun Deep project is located within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ), so it’s in our part of the Black Sea, but it is NOT protected by NATO. This exclusive zone borders Ukraine to the north and northeast. Except that the northeastern part is de facto controlled by russia, as it is the EEZ of the Crimean Peninsula. Neptun Deep is focused on gas extraction and transforming Romania into the largest producer and exporter of gas in the European Union. Who do you think is most economically affected by this? You guessed it: russia. Because gas will be extracted from the Pelican block for at least the next 20 years. Do you think we no longer need gas? We do—for example, for massive AI data centers, which are energy-intensive. Neptun Deep is such a strategic and beneficial project for Romania—and so detrimental to russia—that as early as 2023, I, a simple man with some wartime experience, predicted that the russians would target Neptun Deep. They will use hybrid attacks against our project. The Ministry of Defense and the Romanian Presidency must provide us with assurances and some information (of the kind that does not compromise OPSEC) on how we will protect our project. As a result the number of birds in conservation breeding centres, started at Sam and Ramdevra in Rajasthan, have reached 73 with addition of 5 new chicks in this season and we are moving ahead towards rewilding of birds in near future. In achieving another milestone, a female GIB, tagged in August 2025, had laid an infertile egg in Kutch, as this population has lost all its males long back. In a major trans-state conservation effort, a captive-bred GIB egg from the conservation breeding program in Rajasthan was transported by road over 19 hours in a handheld portable incubator and was replaced in the nest on 22 March. The female completed incubating this fertile egg and hatched it on March 26. The field monitoring team found the young chick being reared by its foster mother. This effort is among one of the many steps to recover the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard populations. With the commitment to save GIB, we are making great progress in India’s conservation journey. Congratulations to all scientists, field officers and wildlife enthusiasts who made this possible. I'm a 35-year-old American I've lived in Argentina for 5 months so far in 2025 Here are the some things I like more about Argentina than the USA: -It's SIGNIFICANTLY easier to make friends in Argentina. Seriously, I lived in Colorado for the last 10 years, and I was beginning to think I was some fucking weirdo bc of how small my social circle was. The social life here is just so organic. If you're not a weirdo, you just attract friends...especially as an ex-pat. Everyone is always about milling around the city, playing sports, drinking mate, going to cafes/boliches/concerts/events. I don't know why, but in 5 months here, my social circle is already bigger and stronger than the one I had in 10 years in Denver, Colorado. -Politics isn't life here. There's some type of weird brain virus that's destroying the minds of the American people. Politics has seeped into every aspect of the culture fabric and it's become this weird, unavoidable daily reality. In Argentina, the people are well-informed about politics and global affairs, but it doesn't dominate the conversation. Very refreshing for me. -People are generally healthier and more beautiful. In general, the Argentines are some healthy, skinny, beautiful mf's. The men, the women, everyone. No radical Ozempic intervention is required here. -People have less money, but more time and more soul. Average wages here are absolute shite, and so is the Argentine Peso...but people seem to have more time, more energy and less stress, generally. People in the USA have a lot of money, but not a lot of soul. Here it;s the opposite. I've confronted some of the dark aspects of the economic realities here, but generally people are extremely present, laid back and "amable". I'd describe the people here as passionate "life-enjoyers." They are passionate about everything they do. They do it with gusto, soul, and UMPH. Mate - We love that shit Soccer - Hell yeah Hanging out at the park with some dogs - WE Live for this shit Living here has made me appreciate my life so much more. It's a very life-affirming place that gets you in touch with what actually matters.
