At the same time, absorbed solar radiation rose sharply, about 0.8 W/m². That increase in incoming sunlight explains nearly all of the rise in Earth's energy imbalance. Fewer or thinner clouds reflect less sunlight back to space. More solar energy enters. The surface warms. And heat loss increases.
